Caledon OPP along with Caledon Fire and EMS responded to a single vehicle accident on McLaren Road between Charleston Sideroad and Forks of the Credit Road. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a hydro pole, then spun out further into the ditch causing severe damage to the vehicle as well as the pole and fence. EMS was first on scene to find engine bay was on fire in the vehicle. Both people manage to escape the wreckage and thankfully their was a citizen close by to pull the driver away from the burning car. Fire crews arrived on scene to the burning vehicle as well as several small fires in the trees due to the live hydro lines. The vehicle was quickly extinguished by firefighters and the vehicle was removed from the ditch. Hydro One was also dispatched to the area to fix the low hanging lines as well as clear the broken hydro pole in order to reopen the roadway. After a short investigation, the driver was charged with Careless Driving and also served a 3 day license suspension for registering a warn on a breath test. The driver will appear in Caledon court to answer to the charges as well. The roadway is now open and all emergency crews have cleared the scene.
