Sponsored by the India-Bhutan Foundation (IBF), we donated 2000 copies of our book, The Little Astronaut II to the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) Sherig Bhutan. We would like to thank the India Bhutan Foundation for their generous support and the MoESD for supporting us in distributing the book across schools in Bhutan.

The Little Astronaut II is an immersive childrens book about outer space aimed at generating interest among students about space science and encouraging them to pursue STEM education.

As part of the sponsorship, the project highlights the cooperation between Bhutan and India in space technology and exploration and some of the important milestones such as the launch of the Indo-Bhutan Satellite and Ground Earth Station.

My genuine passion for art led me to Azha K**a: who showed me a clear path of art and inspiration. Under his guidance, I realized art feels like 'home'. And I am always exploring and learning to furnish my space.

Hi, I am Ugyen Sangay Dema, 25 and I’m the illustrator of the Children’s Book, Dawa the Little Astronaut-2. Briefly, I did my undergraduate in Fine Arts at MS University, India. I’m currently working at Vast Bhutan as a volunteer artist. I have been exploring various art mediums and I am mostly into digital art. Increasingly immersed in the world of digital art, I realized how it influences my persona and the environment I live in. It also inspires me to use my skills as a visual artist to deliver creative solutions for the things around me. Being an illustration enthusiast, I’m looking forward to learning and diving deep.

I have spent a good amount of time with The Dawa the Little Astronaut and her amazing Journey. Her narration took me to explore lots of amazing things that are in and beyond the Universe. Curious Little Dawa taught me finer details and beauty of the universe we live in and made me think what possibly can be beyond the sky. “Her story inspired me to look up into the night sky with a sense of wonder I never felt before as an artist.”

I have also come to know about different telescopes which can take us billions of years back into the past and to thousands of different galaxies. I won’t spoil you much, but rather I insist you to definitely read Dawa the little Astronaut-2 to experience her beautiful story and my illustrations. I hope you all enjoy as I did while working on the visual.

Lastly, I would like to acknowledge one of my mentors Aue Karma Wangchuk Sonam for connecting me with this amazing project and Aue Nidup Gyeltshen and Tsree Dor Jee from OxMedia for all their guidance.

Happy Reading!

Chairman of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) S. Somanath was in Bhutan from 13 to 14 March, where he jointly inaugurated the S-band ground Earth station in Thimphu with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Tandi Dorji. The station is located at the premises of GovTech Agency.
According to a press release from the Embassy of India, the ground station will enable Bhutan to receive data from the joint Indo-Bhutan satellite that was launched into space in November last year from the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota. The Indo-Bhutan Sat will transmit high resolution images to the ground station that will enable Bhutan to manage and monitor its natural resources. It will also assist Bhutan in agricultural development and disaster management.
Chairman S. Somanath held a bilateral meeting with Lyonpo Tandi Dorji to discuss the ongoing cooperation between Bhutan and India in the space sector and explore plans for the future covering areas of collaboration in capacity building of engineers, satellite building and testing, processing and analyzing satellite data.
The chairman visited the Druk Gyalpo’s institute in Pangbesa, Paro and interacted with student on the advances being made in space sector, benefits of space application and technology and opportunities for research, innovation and entrepreneurship in frontier science and technology.
Bhutan has made some relatively significant strides in space technology ever since the country launched its first satellite, Bhutan-1 in June 2018 which was developed by Bhutanese scientists at the Kyushu institute of Technology.
