BandRecorder: recording bands (duh)
No, I don’t record on analog tape, using open reel tape recorders. I have done so, in the age of cassette tape and Tascam Portastudios. But nowadays a computer comes in more handy, right? That name just seemed like a nice wordplay. Sorry if I fooled you.
I record on location and mix at home for fun. Because I like it, because it fascinates me, because I’d like to become better by doing it. I only do projects I really like. I’m not for hire in a commercial way. I leave that to the pros: people trying to make a living as a producer, sound engineer, mixing engineer, mastering engineer, and so on.
Of course, skills are of the essence, but no-one ever asks about them. Everyone always asks about the gear. So here you go: Logic Pro X, RME Fireface 800, Steinberg UR22, FMR RNP8380, FMR RNC1773, RME QuadMic, Oktava MK-012 (2x), Oktava MK-319 PEO mod, AKG C414 B-ULS, ElektroVoice PL-20, AKG D112, AKG D12, AKG D224, Shure Beta 52A, Shure SM57 (3x), Shure SM58, ADK S7, Sennheiser MD421, Sennheiser MD21, Sennheiser e906, Shure 520DX Green Bullet, SE Electronics Reflexion Filter, and some more stuff.
I track up to 10 channels at once. I don’t fix in the mix what can be done by re-recording. I do as many takes as it takes. I don’t do drumtrack editing or drum replacing. I don’t record four demo songs in one day. I don’t have a studio room, you need to look yourself for a quiet and good sounding recording location where neighbours don’t mind the music. Oh, there should be a toilet and preferably some chairs and a table, and some room to chill and eat. Recording is also waiting for hours when your bandmember is tracking. Recording is being together all day long. Everybody needs some space.
