Living The Dram Podcast - Episode 023 - Aberlour: A'Bunadh (054) & Abunadh Alba (003)
Rickus and Hursty take another trip up the Spey. Charlestown? Never heard of it...
The lads are going big with two cask-strentgh monsters; one an absolute sherry bomb, and the other being created in entirely the same fashion but with a twist.
Aberlour Distillery and the township itself has an amazing history, owing almost all of its prosperity to philanthropic ninja James Fleming.
Hursty breaks the masonic code and divulges a huge secret in the bridge building/time capsule department and afterward Rickus regales us with a tale of how the fourth Laird of Elchies wouldn't allow construction of a bridge across the Spey.
Pour yourself up a dram of Aberlour, listen in and be very entertained.

Living The Dram Podcast - Episode 022 - Cardhu: 12yo, 15yo & 18yo
'Iso', as most Aussies call it, has given Rickus & Hursty a little bit of extra time to revisit the long format and figuratively dive deep into Cardhu's mash tun.
Another feather in Diageo's cap and the first distillery to be acquired by Johnnie Walker & Sons; Cardhu has a rich and interesting history chequered with deceit, triumph and controversy - but you knew that at the mention of Diageo, didn't you?
Rickus & Hursty recount the tale of two of the most brazen and tenacious women in the history of distilling and also discuss how completely changing your product but not the packaging can lead to parliament getting involved, all while comparing and reviewing the 12, 15 and 18 year-old offerings.
Along the way the boys get passionate about whether doping should be allowed in sport and how people should walk up escalators, as that's how they were intended to be used.
Pour yourself up a dram of Cardhu, listen in and see if you agree.

Rickus & Hursty try a new kid on the block, the latest offering in JW Grant's portfolio; the Aerstone Land & Sea Cask 10yo's.
The boys are back in isolation but that hasn't impacted their ability to dram on and talk s**t about it (or over each other), quite the contrary. They're getting in plenty of practice.
They talk the usual distillery history and whisky information as well as tackling pressing issues such as: does it really matter where your whisky matures? Does terroir exist in whisky as it does in wine?

Living The Dram Podcast - Episode 019 - Classic Malts™ - Pt. 4: Oban 14yo - Wee Dram
Rickus & Hursty embark on the fourth leg of their journey through the Classic Malts™ range, taking matters over to the west coast.
Oban, the O.G. in the line-up, is one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland and the second smallest in Diageo's portfolio. Did somebody mention llamas?
The boys talk supermarket checkout protocol and more mispronunciations, as well as the usual history and tasting opinions. Pour up an Oban 14yo and see if you agree.

Living The Dram Podcast - Episode 020 - Ardbeg Day Special 2021
Rickus apologises for not video-recording approximately the first fourteen and a half minutes or thereabouts. He mistook the camera merely being on as being in a state of recording.
Rickus & Hursty celebrate the back Saturday of Fèis Ìle with an Ardbeg in hand.
The boys crap on about festival releases and events whilst sampling the youngest age statement they've ever seen on a single-malt. They tell you how Ardbeg and Rickus tandemly initiated the va**ng trend, then they go on to taste two previous Ardbeg Day festival releases.
Rickus also surprises Hursty with a bonus heavyweight dram.
But the real scandal lies within whether Rickus deserves to maintain office as a Committee Member... pour yourself your favourite Ardbeg and see if you agree.

Living The Dram - Episode 005 - The GlenDronach: Revival vs Revival with Cameron McNeill Rickus & Hursty decide to experiment with a battle royale! This episode they bring a special guest, fellow whisky enthusiast and back-country snowboarder Cameron "Camo" "Wahzel" "Macca" McNeill (no one actually calls him Macca...) on the show. In a broad ranging and entertaining conversation, they explore some of Camo’s snowboarding experiences in the Kashmir province of India as well as the usual whisky and non-whisky related banter. So sit back with a sherry cask dram and enjoy! The GlenDronach distillery was one of the first licensed distilleries in Scotland, founded in 1826 in Aberdeenshire, the Highland district. Famous for its sherry cask expressions, the GlenDronach distillery produced a Revival 15 year old at the hands of then-master blender Billy Walker before the distillery was mothballed in 1996. Since recommissioning in 2002 with Dr. Rachel Barrie at the helm, the Revival 15 year old has been ummm... well, revived. The boys pit them head to head. It's battle of the blenders. Who will take out the title? Addressing General Ignorance: •"Quills" is the term for cinnamon bark that Camo was looking for. When harvesting the spice, the bark and leaves are the primary parts of the plant used. Only 0.5 mm of the inner bark is used; the outer, woody portion is discarded, leaving metre-long cinnamon strips that curl into rolls referred to as "quills" on drying. •Laird is a generic name for the owner of a large, long-established Scottish estate, roughly equivalent to an esquire in England, yet ranking above the same in Scotland. In the Scottish order of precedence, a laird ranks below a baron and above a gentleman. This rank is held only by those lairds holding official recognition in a territorial designation by the Lord Lyon King of Arms. They are usually styled [name] [surname] of [lairdship], and are traditionally entitled to place The Much Honoured before their na
Living The Dram, Episode 003 Islay at last! Fresh off the back of a Laphroaig tasting evening hosted by Dan Woolley at Webster's in Newtown, Rickus & Hursty decide to delve deeper into Laphroaig's history and range. By ABT, Rickus means Airside Breath Testing. The ability to chat with your neighbours on the Friends of Laphroaig website is currently down. A reply to an email sent to query about this reads as follows: "We’re currently updating and upgrading the Laphroaig website and we hope that in the future the website will be better than ever. Currently, there are certain features such as your neighbours plots which aren’t functioning, but we’re looking to have them back in 2020." Addressing General Ignorance: •English persecution may or may not be the reason the Johnstons' anglicised their name. •In 2019, the value of £350 in 1836 is equivalent to approximately £39,646.23 or $72,082.79 AUD •Nutmeg is the seed or ground spice of several species of the genus Myristica. Myristica fragrans (fragrant nutmeg or true nutmeg) is a dark-leaved evergreen tree cultivated for two spices derived from its fruit: nutmeg, from its seed, and mace, from the seed covering. •A standard drink of spirits in Australia is 30ml at 40% ABV •A quarter cask is approx. 45-50 litres | ~29-35 LPA): A quarter cask is a quarter of the size of the ASB (American standard barrel, or bourbon barrel), but with the same dimensional ratio. https://www.livingthedram.com.au https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrUkKV8By3ABCm2RWAj_Tfw/ https://www.instagram.com/livingthedrampodcast/ https://twitter.com/DramLiving https://soundcloud.com/user-310629294
