Review: ‘I Would Leave Me If I Could’ by Halsey (She/They).

An raw exploration of their personal experiences and emotions; Halsey’s collection of poetry is both beautiful and heartbreaking. The poetry is very much a stream of consciousness and features an unreliable sense of time in that she frequently navigates back and forth in her life experiences. Halsey guides you down memory lane, reliving their experiences on such an intimate level that it almost feels intrusive to know all these things about her; of her relationship with herself, her family and past lovers.

Halsey’s poetry invites you into her mind, allowing you to witness the manic highs and depressive lows she experiences with her bipolar disorder. From the magic of life as a child prior to her awareness of her family’s lack of wealth, to her painful experiences with sexual assault, she manages to encapsulate her honest life’s journey all the while portraying life as a woman in the modern day. Halsey’s expression through words has been a constant in how she has dealt with people and events in her life; “Once you’ve put someone down on paper, you’ve reduced them to a character, and they no longer have the power that they do in real life.”

Whether or not you are a fan of Halsey and her music, her poetry exposes so many facets of life that you will not walk away from the book untouched or unprovoked. Her words invite reflection and inspire you into achieving your passions; that no matter how difficult your life’s hardships are or how humble your beginnings, you can achieve great things.

Set the mood:

Time of day: Late afternoon when you can unwind without the distractions of work or others around you.
☀️
Snacks to pair: Fresh fruit; her use of imagery with fruity metaphors will have you craving fresh watermelon or berries. The sweet flavours will also balance out the sometimes bitter themes she covers in her poems.
🍉
Drinks to pair: A mimosa, or strawberry daiquiri. For something non-alcoholic, a fruity iced tea or homemade lemonade.

COVID has meant that we have been locked in boarders for nearly a year! BUT! Road trips are getting more and more popular as people look for a way to satisfy their travel cravings. ⠀
⠀
Heres 6 tips to help you plan for next road trip!⠀
⠀
☀️ Check the weather: to make the most of your trip you want to go when the weather is ideal and make sure you're prepared for sun, shower or snow⠀
⠀
🚙 Buy or borrow a decent car: whichever vehicle you choose needs to be up for the challenge. You don't want to get stuck somewhere and have to foot a huge towing bill. Also make sure you know how to change a tire!⠀
⠀
⛺️ Consider where/how you are going to sleep: in your car, hotels, airbnbs, tents or caravans? ⠀
⠀
🩹 First aid kit: make sure you have a decent first aid kit easily accessible in your vehicle. Better safe than sorry!⠀
⠀
🌲 Get an offline GPS: if you're planning on going to some more remote areas make sure you are prepared with maps or a satellite phone⠀
⠀
🌑 Avoid driving at night: not only are you tired but in Australia night time is when all the animals come out. Trust us, you don't want to hit a kangaroo or swerve to avoid a wombat at night ⠀
⠀
What are your top road trip tips? ✨⠀

🌱 What actually is natural skincare and is it better or worse for your skin? 🌱⠀
⠀
In general, natural skincare refers to the use of products that contain naturally-derived ingredients. These products avoid synthetic chemicals and instead use naturally sourced nutrients and organic matter to treat the skin. 🌸⠀
⠀
This all sounds great! We know natural foods are healthier for our body so it makes sense that natural skincare products are healthier for our skin. 🤔⠀
⠀
BUT, there is currently no legislation or exact definition for "natural skincare" so some companies may include a combination of natural and synthetic ingredients and label it as having "natural ingredients". This misleading advertising is a cause for concern as we then are not fully aware of what we are putting on our skin. 😠⠀
⠀
Here are some tips for switching to clean beauty: ⠀
⠀
🌱 Consult your dermatologist: some people may be more likely to have a reaction or may have severe skin conditions that are required to be treated by medication⠀
⠀
🌱 Swap slowly: don't change your whole routine at once. This way you know exactly how each new product is affecting your skin⠀
⠀
🌱 Look for target ingredients and research: there are specific ingredients that can help with different skin concerns. Researching and understanding what you need in a product will help you do the best for your skin⠀
⠀
🌱 Be patient: all skincare takes time to show results, and occasionally you have to go backwards before you go forwards as your skin purges and readjusts. Give it time and be patient. ⠀
⠀
What are your thoughts on clean beauty? ⬇️⠀

We asked founder Anita Bencic why she started her business and what its purpose is?
"I always wanted to own a homewares/lifestyle store as I love interiors and aesthetics but I also wanted to showcase the amazing talent in our own country. Supporting and showcasing local labels is the driving force behind the store"
