Career
Prior to joining Scorpions, Kottak was a drummer for the Bob Brickley Band, Nut House, Mister Charlie, Buster Brown, Montrose, Kingdom Come, Wild Horses, the McAuley Schenker Group, Warrant, and Ashba. He gained early mainstream exposure during his time with Kingdom Come, appearing on the band's first two studio albums, the first of which included their biggest hit, "Get it On." This track prominently features Kottak's drumming, culminating in a drum solo just before the song's conclusion.
In February 1997, he helped Dio on their US tour by replacing Vinny Appice for four or five shows when the latter had pneumonia. He also gave drum lessons at Far-Out Music in Jeffersonville, Indiana, once having as students former Bride drummer, Jerry McBroom. He also played with guitarist Michael Lee Firkins.
Kottak also played in his own band Kottak, formerly known as KrunK.

Scapegoating β An Insidious Family Pattern of Blame and Shame on a Family
One of the most painful things for a child is to be the scapegoat of the family. The scapegoated child in the family is the rejected one or the child who was picked out to be abused. Scapegoating is a serious family dysfunctional problem in which one member of the family is blamed for small things, picked on and constantly put down. Itβs a generational pattern of abuse that is passed down to the children.
One or both parents made a decision that somebody in the family has to be the bad guy. The mother or father makes one child bad and then looks for things (sometimes real, but most often imagined) that are wrong. Blaming and shaming are heaped on one child. The scapegoated child feels different and abandoned. Scapegoating then becomes a learned family pattern being repeated down through future generations with the parent designating a favourite child and a rejected child.
