Su***de is a significant public health challenge, leading to more than 700,000 deaths each year globally. The impact of each su***de is profound, with far-reaching social, emotional, and economic consequences that deeply affect individuals and communities worldwide.

For the years 2024-2026, the theme for World Su***de Prevention Day is "Changing the Narrative on Su***de" with the call to action "Start the Conversation". This theme aims to raise awareness about the importance of reducing stigma and encouraging open conversations to prevent su***des. It's about shifting from a culture of silence and stigma to openness, understanding, and support.

The call to action encourages everyone to start the conversation on su***de and su***de prevention. No matter how small, every conversation contributes to a supportive and understanding society. By initiating these vital conversations, we can break down barriers, raise awareness, and create better cultures of support.

This theme emphasizes the need to prioritize su***de prevention and mental health in policy making, calling for government action. Changing the narrative requires advocating for policies prioritizing mental health, increasing access to care, and supporting those in need.

The goal of September 10 each year is to focus attention on the issue, reduce stigma, and raise awareness among organizations, governments, and the public with the singular message that su***des are preventable. Emergency Services Day is a significant event that honours the dedicated individuals who serve in emergency services. The day celebrates the contributions of police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency responders who bravely put their lives at risk to ensure the public's safety. It is a day filled with activities and educational events that shine a light on the crucial work these professionals do every day.
The celebration aims to educate the public about the responsible use of emergency services, promote essential life-saving skills, and encourage people to learn first aid and emergency response techniques. This knowledge can make communities safer, as more individuals will be equipped to handle emergencies before professional help arrives. The day also highlights emergency services' various career and volunteer opportunities, inspiring people to consider these vital roles.

History of Emergency Services Day:
Emergency Services Day was established in 2016 by a police officer named Tom Scholes-Fogg, who recognised the need to honor emergency workers in the UK. His efforts led to the first official celebration in 2018. This particular day pays tribute to the work and sacrifices of emergency responders and aims to help the public understand and appreciate their roles. Tom Scholes-Fogg's idea gained traction, and the day now includes a moment of silence to honor those who died in the line of duty. It also promotes careers and volunteering in emergency services, creating a stronger connection between the public and emergency responders.
How to Celebrate Emergency Services Day:
Honouring fallen heroes is another significant aspect of Emergency Services Day. A moment of silence is observed to remember those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, serving as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by emergency workers. The day also aims to build community appreciation for these services, fostering support and recognition for the ongoing efforts of these dedicated individuals.

Host a Thank-You Event:
Consider hosting a thank-you event for local heroes, inviting firefighters, paramedics, and police officers. Organise engaging activities, refreshments, and music to allow mingling and story-sharing. Encourage children to dress up as their favourite emergency workers for a fun and meaningful display of appreciation.
Learn Life-Saving Skills:
Enroll in a first aid class or CPR workshop, as learning these skills can save lives. Many community centres offer complimentary workshops on Emergency Services Day. Inviting friends or family to join can foster a shared sense of empowerment and education regarding emergency response.
Volunteer Time:
Consider dedicating a day to volunteering with emergency services, providing assistance at community events, or supporting training sessions. Your support can make a meaningful difference and offer an opportunity to connect with the individuals who contribute to our community's safety.
Social Media Acknowledgments:
Express gratitude to emergency workers on social media using hashtags and . Share stories or post photos showcasing appreciation and encourage others to join in. It is a simple yet powerful way to spread gratitude and awareness.
Charitable Fundraising:
Organize a fundraiser for emergency services charities, such as a bake sale, marathon, or raffle. Donations from these activities can significantly contribute to providing essential resources and support for emergency services' invaluable work.
Community Beautification:
Participate in or initiate a community clean-up project, collaborating with emergency workers to enhance local parks or streets. This endeavour is an excellent opportunity to build camaraderie, improve the neighbourhood, and demonstrate support for those dedicated to protecting and serving our community.

More Media Group : On this momentous International Day of Police Cooperation, we commend law enforcement across Australia for their unwavering dedication to peace, security, and justice.

By sharing best practices, intelligence, and resources, police forces enhance our collective ability to confront crime, ensure safety, and prevent conflict. The principles that underpin police cooperation - accountability, transparency, and respect for diversity - are essential to renewing a social contract anchored in human rights.

Community-oriented policing that emphasizes outreach and local solutions helps to build trust and improve safety. We also highlight the invaluable impacts of women in policing. Women's participation promotes access to justice for all, including for victims of gender-based violence, who may be more likely to seek help from women officers.

Together, let us promote cooperation, foster gender equality and build a safer future for everyone. www.moremediagroup.com.au

More Media Group Aust Pty Ltd - The International Day of Medical Transporters is celebrated annually on August 20th to honour the crucial work of ambulance drivers and medical transporters, highlight their dedication to ensuring the safe transfer of patients, and recognise the historical evolution of medical transport.

Medical transporters do more than drive. They provide comfort, assist with patient mobility, and ensure safe, timely arrivals at healthcare facilities. Their selfless dedication, whether it's in emergency or non-emergency medical transportation, is crucial for providing care to patients. Let's take a moment to appreciate their unwavering commitment and understand the significant impact of their work on patient care.

Celebrating this day reminds us of the evolution and importance of medical transportation in providing care and saving lives. It acknowledges the indispensable role of medical transporters and their unwavering commitment to ensuring timely medical assistance. Let's also take a moment to respect and appreciate the historical evolution of this vital profession.

Ideas to honour medical transporters on August 20th include shadowing a medical transporter for a day, using on social media, surprising a medical transporter with lunch or coffee, creating thank you cards or care packages for the local transport team, learning about what medical transporters do and sharing that knowledge, organising a fundraiser or donating to a charity supporting medical transporters, and dressing up as a medical transporter for the day. www.moremediagroup.com.au

By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not OK, you can follow our conversation steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are OK, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask.
Before you can look out for others, you need to look out for yourself. And that’s OK. If you're not in the right headspace or you don't think you're the right person to have the conversation, try to think of someone else in their support network who could talk to them.

Thinking about starting a meaningful conversation? Here are some questions to consider:
AM I READY?
- Am I in a good headspace?
- Am I genuinely willing to listen?
- Can I commit as much time as needed?

AM I PREPARED?
Do I understand that if I ask how someone’s doing, the answer could be: “No, I’m not”?
Do I understand that I can’t ‘fix’ someone’s problems?
Do I accept that they might not be ready to talk or that they might not want to talk to me?

PICKED MY MOMENT?
Have I chosen somewhere relatively private and comfy?
Have I figured out a time that will be good for them to chat?
Have I made sure I have enough time to chat properly?

Some will also be breathing "on air" through a self-contained breathing apparatus, adding an extra level of difficulty to their climb.
