RMD44 UHF CB Repeater, Mt Duncan on air

This was a project first conceived by CCARC, Cradle Coast Amateur Radio Club, to install a CB Repeater on Mt Duncan. Unfortunately, even though they had acquired the repeater, duplexers, coax and antennas, dwindling membership etc, had put the project on hold. CCARC had transferred ownership of the site, and all its equipment to NWTARC, and the club’s priority was to get the CB repeater on air.

The Clubs repeater committee of Dave VK7DC, Dion VK7DB and Matt were tasked with making this happen, last Saturday they climbed Mt Duncan, assisted by Rob VK7ARG and installed the CB repeater, which operates on UHF CB channel 44.

Great work all!

Repeater 6 is back on air! After an extended period of being off air, VJA06 on Mt Lloyd is now operational. An onsite retune of the duplexer picked up close to 20db on both the RX and TX, with reports received from Tarraleah, Bradys Lake, and mobile in Hobart. The site sits at 920m above sea level in the Derwent Valley. Some minor interference exists on the receiver but will be fixed in due course.

Quick trip today to upgrade the DWT03 channel 3 CB repeater at Brady’s Sugarloaf. This site sits at 1002m above sea level. You will notice some pink shading on the flora, this is fire retardant applied by aerial bombers during the recent bushfires. Channel 3 primarily covers the central highlands of TAS and upper Derwent Valley.

Would you be interested...?

We have been discussing the idea of holding a Fox Hunting night within Hobart and surrounding suburbs one Friday/Saturday night. This would be a fun opportunity for all radio operators, and enthusiasts, to meet, greet and test those direction finding skills!

Fox hunting, in a nut shell, is an event where participants travel in motor vehicles to locate a hidden operator (the Fox). The Fox will transmit every few minutes and give out some clues. First to find the fox will be the winner! Proposal would be a $5 entry fee, per person, with the winning team taking the jackpot

We have been very impressed with the rapid action taken today by the ACMA to assist in dealing with users interfering on the input channel (38). We hope that this will continue to improve in time and allow interference free communication on the Hobart repeater. Remember channels 31-38 are repeater inputs and should not be used when in range of a UHF CBRS repeater :) acmadotgov

The channel 8 repeater has had its transmit antenna changed to the backup dipole today after a few issues had been found with the primary antenna. You may notice a difference in received signal strength.

Mains power has now been restored to Repeater 8. The Icom repeater has also had its controller upgraded.

Repeater 8 is back on air!

04/04/2014

HOB08 to be back on air early next week from Mt Nelson. Mains power has not yet been restored to the site, but the repeater will be solar & battery powered for the next few weeks to get it back up and operational. The temporary repeater has been switched off today.

09/01/2014

Following discussions with the site manager it appears that mains power will not be restored until mid February. Repeater 8 will remain off the air until power is restored or a temporary site is found.

08/01/2014

Repeater 8 is currently off air due to a mains power failure on the site. We are working to have it operational soon.

30/12/2013

We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy 2014! Catch you on air soon :)

05/12/2013

Please note HOB08 will be off air for a short period this afternoon (Fri 6/12) whilst upgrades are made to the repeater
