Many people have personal concerns about the pursuit of green energy by governments, federally and state. The visual intrusion, the land-hungry windfarms and solar panels and the extensive enlargement of the transmission network required to accommodate them have a marked effect on individuals’ environments and livelihoods.

A lot of natives flower nearly all year round, they grow so well here and love our climate. It's just a matter of finding the right native for your area. However, there are ways around that too.

Watch Dan Eco Convos with Dan have a chat with Jarrod from Grace and Whiskers Coffee House. The good news is that pies will still be available in the future and that the The Bunker Smokehouse and Bar will continue trading. Sad to see the closure of local businesses. Best wishes to Erin and the rest of the great staff. Open today until 2pm and tomorrow from 7am to 11am.

Unfortunately the release dates didn’t align between issue 5 of our newspaper and the latest Ghostbusters release meaning that the movie will no longer be at the cinema at the time of our next issue but here is our review anyway!

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is an enjoyable adventure film that is respectful towards the original movies. Following the 2016 attempt at a Ghostbusters reboot, many wondered whether the beloved franchise was best left alone. However, director Jason Reitman has proven this worry to be incorrect. In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, we watch a loveable cast with relatable struggles have to stop a not-so-relatable paranormal apocalypse in a rural town. Starring actors McKenna Grace (playing the socially awkward science prodigy, Phoebe), Finn Wolfhard (playing the angst-ridden but caring teen, Trevor), Carrie C**n (playing the charismatic single mum, Callie) and Paul Rudd (playing the goofy teacher, Gary) this rollercoaster of a film catches your attention early and doesn’t let it go.

The plot of the film, while not perfect, is engaging and entertaining at every point. Some minor plot points felt unnecessary and even uncomfortable in one specific circumstance, but these small issues are overshadowed by the positives. The main plot of the film was logical, well-developed, and interesting. It was a fun blend of the classic format of the original films and the characters facing nuanced issues of the modern world. The setup and payoff of the final conflict, without saying too much, was enjoyable and rewarding.

Each character was dimensional and had their own personal arc through the film. The relationship between Callie and her children felt nuanced and incredibly realistic. The relationships that the three developed along the way (specifically with youth podcaster Podcast and the goofy geek Gary Grooberson - played by Logan Kim and Paul Rudd, respectively) developed naturally and were a joy to watch unfold.

Across the board, the acting was very enjoyable. However, McKenna Grace shines in her portrayal of Phoebe. From her delivery of some terrible jokes, to discussing science, to saving the world, she made Phoebe a character that jumped out of the screen. I know that, personally, I cannot wait to see which character she brings to life next.
The music, effects, and cinematography in the film were extremely immersive. The score alluded to the original films while also bringing some amazing music to the table in its own right. All of the ghosts looked real enough to see strolling the street and all of the gadgets were as realistic as ghost-catching guns can be. This is a movie that is best seen in-cinema to get the full immersive experience.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a joyride that balances heartwarming character growth and thrilling paranormal adventures. This reboot is absolutely worth the watch and puts the 2016 attempt to shame. The consistent allusions to the original films (and maybe even some cameos) make this a must-watch for any Ghostbusters fan. Having said that, if you haven’t seen the original films this instalment stands just as tall on its own. This is an enjoyable film for any and all viewers. I strongly recommend that you give it a watch.

Our feature story this issue offers an alternative solution to the housing crisis. Community living. A great story from Dan Vanderhoek from Eco Convos with Dan. If this is of interest to you check out the workshop that is being held on December 11 (details in the article). Great job Dan and this certainly gives the community something to think about. At the bottom of the article you can watch interview, Dr. Jason Holder who is an expert in this area.

It’s no secret that along with the rest of Australia, we are in the midst of a housing crisis. Lines at open houses for sale and rent across the region seem insurmountable and competition has hit record rates. We are at a point now, in the Gympie Region where the average sale price has hit $470,00...
