Police have warned holiday drivers to stick to the rules or risk being booked, rather than kissed, under the Mistletoe this Christmas – Operation Mistletoe that is.

The annual enforcement operation comes as the RACQ warns that Queensland is potentially on track for its worst year on the roads since 2009.

Gympie’s Kidd Bridge may be closed, probably briefly this afternoon, with forecast flood levels topping the tarmac at a predictd possible height of 10m.

A Bureau of Meteorology flood warning says rainfall totals of about 90 to 140mm have been recorded since 9am Monday, causing river and creek level rises.

With showers and a chance of thunderstorms forecast for the next few days, the good news is that the sun will also be out increasingly during that time, with better conditions to come later in the week.

The bureau warns moderate flooding has occurred this morrning at Miva and Tiaro and the prediction for Gympie is at this stage for minor flooding only.

The river is currently 9.81m at Miva and rising to a possible peak this afternoon of about 10.2m, with moderate flooding.

At Tiaro the river is currently at 7.49m and rising and may reach the 8m moderate flood level this morning.

This may rise further to around 9m at Tiaro during the afternoon with further rises possible at both downstream centres with forecast rainfall.

With luck, that may be the worst of it, as Mary River levels fall at most measuring sites upstream, according to the latest river height advice available at 8.40am.

The river at the nearby Gympie Weir was steady at minor flood level, with water submerging the riverside walking trail and creeping in to the touch field area.

River levels are falling at Conondale and most other upstream centres, where Gympie flood waters often come from, flowing downstream in coming days.

The level is steady at Kenilworth, falling at Moy Pocket, burt rising in Yabba Creek at Imbil, where roads are affected.

Kandanga Creek is falling, Six Mile Creek is falling at Cooran, Deep Creek is reported as steady at Cedar Pocket DamTinana Creek is falling at Tagigan Road and steady at Bauple East.

The forecast for Gympie is up to 25mm rain today, up to 20mm tomorrow, but fining up from Thursday with up to 4mm and none on Friday.

That will lead into a forecast mostly sunny to sunny weekend with no rain.

CAUTION: Partial road closure at Curra

Unconfirmed reports have emerged on social media of serious potholes between Curra and Glenwood in the north bound lane of the Bruce Highway.

Several posts have said vehicles (as many as a dozen) have received severe tyre damage and flat tyres from the potholes at "the entrance to the quarry" and have had to pull over to the side of the highway.

What is confirmed is that the Gympie Regional Council have issued a partial road closure at Curra that is believed to be related to the road damage.

Motorists are urged to use caution, drive to the conditions and if it is flooded, forget it.
