Tom Nowakowski is an Actor and was also in the trials for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics! With his dedication, he was on track to join the Swim Team when disaster struck. This story from Tom himself: “After a time trial I did on Wednesday about a week ago, I went for a massage and the masseuse did dry needling on me, this time he went too deep with a few of the needles and punctured my left lung. The lung deflated about 70% of its original size and I had to be hospitalised. I was told that I wouldn’t be able to go to the Olympic trials and that I was out of the race for Tokyo 2021. This crushed me like you wouldn’t believe as I had spent the last 2 years of my life swimming my guts out in a pool everyday without a break. Only to have it all taken away from me so quickly. The next morning in hospital, I was greeted by my respiratory specialist who saw how visually upset I was with the whole situation. He reassured me that he was going to do everything in his power to get me back in the pool, and that he wouldnt let me miss trialling for the next Olympics, even if it meant I had to drive to Adelaide. So the next day he came up with a plan to insert a pump that would release the pressure inside the cavity that holds my lung and allow my lung to inflate to its full form over the next week. The operation was a success and my lung was able to fully inflate and I am back in the pool preparing myself for Olympic trials next week." We are so thrilled to report that Tom went on to reord his own personal best time (PBT) and although he didn't make it to the Olympics this year, he is recovered and now we can start submitting him for more exciting acting roles right here on the Gold Coast.
