More rain 🌧️ on the way next week for North East NSW & South East QLD.

Weather Enthusiast Dylan Mckenna has all the info!

Who ordered some early July rain SEQ/NENSW?🌧️😍

A mid to low end rain 🌧️ event looks to develop over SEQ and NENSW on Monday, lasting through till Wednesday (1st-3rd of July) next week where a southerly change will move up the NSW coast into SEQ, linking up with a a near stationary trough that will develop over central and south eastern QLD which will draw in moist πŸ’¦ easterly winds from the coral sea leading to widespread onshore showers, rain areas and even some isolated storms β›ˆοΈ throughout the forecast region.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
So what can we expect? πŸŒ§οΈβ›ˆοΈπŸ€”

Showers 🌧️ and light to moderate rain areas will increase across SEQ and NENSW on Monday, lingering through Tuesday and Wednesday before clearing off late Thursday. Isolated HEAVY falls β›ˆοΈ are a chance along the NENSW coastline on Wednesday and Thursday however that risk is low and is only backed up by 3 forecast models.

Very isolated storms β›ˆοΈ are possible across parts of SEQ and NENSW during this period (especially along the coast of NENSW) however any thunderstorm activity will remain weak and very isolated with any severe impacts apart from HEAVY rainfall unlikely.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”
So how much rainfall can we expect?πŸŒ§οΈπŸ€”

Widespread falls of 10-30mm can be expected across SEQ and NENSW during the forecast period with most of this rain falling on Wednesday and Thursday. Isolated falls of 30-50mm 😍 are possible along the exposed coastal fringe of the forecast district as heavy showers 🌧️ and potential isolated storms β›ˆοΈ occur.

Very isolated falls of up to 100mm β›ˆοΈβš οΈ cannot be ruled out across coastal NENSW as a potential convergence zone could develop in that general area during the forecast timeframe leading to those higher totals.

This rainfall won’t make it too far beyond the divide unfortunately where only 5-15mm can be expected for locations further west to about Goondiwindi/Tamworth.
β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

SEQ and NENSW are finally beginning to dry out properly β˜€οΈ so seeing rain on the forecast may not be very convenient for some.
HOWEVER for others who rely on the rain or who have been seeing a lot drier conditions compared to most people this will be a welcome sign especially during what usually is a dry time of year across these areas.

NOTE: There are some hints at a fairly interesting scenario πŸ€” playing out across eastern Australia between the 7th-10th of July with a potential low over SA/VIC and associated rain band stretching up into QLD impacting many areas.
This is still unlikely at this stage however I will monitor model data and will issue forecasts if this scenario becomes more likely!

Make sure to follow WEDM for more detailed forecasts like this!😁

7:00AM WA - Perth & Surrounds Severe Thunderstorm Alert

Morning folks in Perth! If you're not awake yet you may very well be soon!

A line of severe thunderstorms with damaging to some very local destructive wind gusts, some imbedded areas of large hail and heavy rainfall that may cause some flash flooding is detected moving towards Perth and surrounding suburbs.

πŸŒͺ️ While the threat for waterspouts/tornadoes remains low this morning, we will continue to monitor the area and issue alerts as we see accordingly. Our second image depicts a radar indicated waterspout couplet. This is evident when strong shades of green (winds moving towards the radar) and strong shades of red (winds moving away from the radar) are detected in a tight couplet over multiple radar scans using the velocity wind tool on our radar software.

Perth Incidents & Weather with an ACCURATE and informative update regarding some severe weather impacting SW WA (including Perth) from today through Friday.

As usual, our team will be monitoring and throwing out any necessary warnings.

Stay safe folks β›ˆοΈπŸŒͺ️

β›ˆοΈ Some Satellite imagery of the systems that are expected to impact the Metro throughout today and into tomorrow and Friday. A Cold Front will impact Coastal areas this morning and into the afternoon spanning from the Southwest to Midwest. This Cold front will deliver Rainfall and potential for Thunderstorms (some could be Severe).

Late Wednesday evening and into Thursday will see the greatest Severe Weather threat materialise with a Low pressure system moving toward the Metro.

This system will likely Bring Severe Thunderstorms with the
potential for Damaging Winds, Heavy Rainfall and Large Hail.
There is a marginal possibility for an isolated Tornado and/or Waterspout(s). (Risk is Low but exists).

We will have a more detailed update on the Low System this afternoon, including most likely coverage for Hazards and Severe Weather. β›ˆοΈ

Eastern NSW & SW WA today: A small chance of isolated storms developing and producing some gusty winds & small hail - overall severity should be low if anything does manage to get going.

Here's another superb Darling Downs supercell captured by our team on November 29th 2023 near Condamine Plains, QLD.

This storm threw out some destructive straight line winds that battered debris (and lots of cotton) at our chase vehicle, awesome little afternoon chase that ended with a beaut light show and chicken parmys!

Friday 7th April 2023 (Good Friday) saw us pop out to the Darling Downs region of Southern QLD on a chase day. We intercepted this gorgeous supercell near Goondiwindi and kept ahead of it through Millmerran and eventually on to Cecil Plains before we were caught out by flash flooding. We were lucky enough to capture a brief tornado on the ground to our SW shortly after this picture was taken, and another funnel later on. The storm also produced 6-7cm hailstones near Norwin, thankfully we managed to stay away from the core!
Some of the colours on this cell were beautiful too! Here's a phone shot from that day taken near Cecil Plains looking into the aqua green core. We'll post some more of this and other chases over the coming days & weeks while the weather is quieter. Expect our usual winter post captions along the lines of "hurry up storm season".....πŸ€£β›ˆοΈ

Melbourne's coldest June morning has just occurred and Canberra got down to -6.2Β° with widespread frosts across Victoria, NSW & Southern QLD! Yes we know it's winter but we're happy agreeing with Anthony on complaining about the cold! ❄️

Some isolated showers and storms can be expected for some in South Eastern SA later on associated with a strong cold pool.

Melbourne CBD's Coldest June Morning in 11 Years as Widespread Frosts Occur Across Victoria, NSW and parts of Southern Queensland! πŸ₯ΆπŸ₯Ά

Melbournians can rightfully complain about the cold this morning with the CBD shivering through its coldest June morning in 11 years as the temperature fell to 1.4C. The suburbs faired worse with Essendon falling to -0.7C while Coldstream dropped to -4.5C! The airport fall to 0.2C, while that equaled the 2013 temperature 11 years ago, in 2020 they also recorded a low of 0.2C in June.

It was a wintry tale across much of Victoria and inland NSW with extensive negative minimums and widespread frosts. The nation's capital was by far the coldest major city though dropping to -6.2C!

I know it's winter and these temperatures are expected from time to time - but doesn't stop us (and me!) complaining about the cold!

On the weather side of things, it may become a little interesting for southeastern South Australia today in the form of a few showers and isolated storms. A strong upper cold pool should bring some winter instability today and there's the potential for some small hail to occur in this activity. The approaching upper cold pool will also extend some cloud eastwards which should result in minimums slowly rising over the coming days for eastern Australia by a couple of degrees.

3K followers now on the American page and a lovely little section of the speech written by the Aussies! It really does say a lot about us and what we do! πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸŒͺ️

3,000+ followers - wow, I remember when it was just our members who liked the page. We couldn't have done it without the help of my team getting the word out and recruiting about our mission, or each one of you out there who participates. All of the shares, likes, and comments help us achieve our goals. Public input is more than you all realize for growing the group. Each day we see the group getting bigger, and now we have sponsors and more opportunities. My wildest dreams could have never brought us here, and I never imagined when we started that this is where it would take us, but this is a people-powered movement, so it's all up to you!

One of our Australian members Weather Enthusiast Dylan Mckenna wrote this up about the Australian/American group, and I think it says a lot about who we are:

The United National Weather Team (UNWT) is dedicated to conducting in-depth research on thunderstorms, with a focus on documenting and tracking tornadoes, utilizing Australia's first technology to measure and document hailstones, and conducting post-event analysis to comprehensively assess tornado and storm damage. Our team comprises trained and experienced personnel who are passionate and dedicated to researching and documenting severe weather phenomena, particularly in regions prone to intense thunderstorm activity, such as eastern Queensland and northern New South Wales.

Furthermore, our mission includes a thorough examination of bushfire behavior and activity during fire seasons, leveraging the expertise of our well-equipped and trained personnel with a deep understanding of firefighting techniques and fire behavior. We are also committed to providing in-depth analysis of cyclones and floods, aiming to provide valuable insights into these events and their impacts, previously unknown to the Australian population.

In addition to our research endeavors, we have assembled skilled civilian rescue crews who will accompany our research personnel, offering vital support during weather-related disasters and incidents. This collaborative effort ensures a rapid and effective response to any potential emergencies, reaching individuals in need faster than traditional emergency services can, if and when necessary.

Our unwavering dedication to safety and research excellence drives our pursuit of a better understanding of weather phenomena and the enhancement of disaster response strategies. No matter where we are in the world, the mission remains the same. So, I raise a toast to you, the public, for getting us this far, and we have a lot more work to do around the world. If you'd like to help us, consider going to our website and donating or becoming a member of the team! Cheers to UNWT, whether here or abroad!

πŸŽ‰ Thank You for 3,000 Followers! πŸŽ‰

All of us here at the United National Weather Team (UNWT) would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you. Your support in sharing our warnings, posts, and page with your family and friends is invaluable. More importantly, your efforts help keep your communities safe during severe weather.

Reaching 3,000 followers is a significant milestone, and we couldn't have done it without you. It's onwards and upwards from here as we continue to provide timely severe weather updates, live storm chasing, and storm rescue operations.

Stay safe and keep spreading the word! πŸŒͺ️🌧️🚨

Significant Weather Threat Map today (Monday) - EWN

Significant Weather Threat Map
Monday, 17 June 2024

WA: A trough near the Gascoyne and west Pilbara coastlines will generate areas of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the region. 24 hour totals of 30-80mm are likely, with isolated falls above 100mm possible bringing the risk of flash flooding as well as riverine flooding and flooding of low-lying areas. Into the Pilbara and further inland falls will not be as heavy, but patchy rain and storms are still expected.

NSW: A deep Tasman Low will drive gusty southerly winds across the NSW Coastline. About Jervis Bay and the Beecroft Peninsula where the coastline is more exposed, winds gusts may approach 90km/h. Cool upper levels may help generate localised thunder within showers from the Newcastle to Seal Rocks areas, particularly near the coast. Localised small hail is also possible.
