Simulation based learning is a central pillar of paramedic education. A recent cross-sectional analysis by Lam et al., surveyed 16 total Australasian undergraduate paramedicine universities to assess cultural competence in paramedic teaching. Across all institutions there were a total of 140 ALS manikins acknowledged, only twelve were identified as a skin colour other than white.
Check out this latest article from the Winter Volume 2023 from Oskar where he considers cultural competency in paramedic education.

Here are a handful of the differences in clinical practice we found interesting:
• For cardiac arrest, 2 services provide dual defibrillation, 1 service provides stacked shocks, 8 services provide mechanical compression devices, and 3 provide precordial thump.
• For analgesia during labour, opioids are indicated in 4 services. In another 4, they are contraindicated.
• In fact, across Australasia you’ll get any one of 16 different pain medications; 8 of these are available in less than half the services.
