"I remember my first Mince party - coincidentally, a Club Mince edition with False Witness headlining - like it was yesterday. I'd eaten at a Szechuan restaurant with my friend Kal and a friend of his, Akil, beforehand. The dishes we had were extremely spicy, which normally isn't a problem for me, except by the time we'd gotten to the Oxford Hotel basement, the acid reflux and post-spice sweats had struck me like a hammer. Compounded with how blisteringly balmy the dimly-lit basement felt and all-too-familiar scents (which I won't disclose in writing) wafting through the air, being in the space kind of felt like a fever dream.

Luckily, upon bumping into Marco and finding all my friends who were there that night, the time I spent dancing like a madman surrounded by said friends and several other sweat-christened people, whilst being left speechless at what Marco was unleashing behind the DJ booth, helped me ride out the reflux. But even in the midst of that fever dream, I felt a sense of ease being in the space that night: seeing the intersection of the Venn diagram where club music geeks, muscle-bound men in leather accoutrements and jubilant qu**rs collided into one unified world was an elusive paradise I wanted to stay in forever. I haven't had the blessing of getting to experience as many Mince or Pavs parties as I'd like to (being a non-Sydneysider), but I'm thankful for people like Peter making those rare oases become a tangible world, if even for just a few hours." - Strict Face

The Illustrious Blacks describe their origins in galactic terms: Manchildblack and Monstah Black were kings of separate planets, until an “inexplicable ultramagnetic pull” brought them together. Here on Earth, they perform disco-infused Afrofuturist funk while channelling the androgynous glamour of Prince, David Bowie, and Grace Jones. The Illustrious Blacks celebrated Pavlovabar - Mardi Gras Edition at the Seymour Centre with us back in 2020, we cannot wait to have them back downunder real soon!

"I’m lucky enough to have played a couple of 7+ hour sets at Pavs and to have danced on that dancefloor more times than I can remember. Or maybe I can’t remember for other reasons... The feeling of being part of something amazing is the same amid the dancers as it is in the DJ booth. The raw energy is everywhere, and it forces everyone to lose themselves in the music, the fun, and the love. "Pavlovabar was one of the most memorable and best gigs of my life! I hadn't been out much in Sydney before so wasn't 100% sure what to expect, but I'd heard from a few friends that Pavs was the spot. I was super excited to be given the trust and freedom to play all night long, I really do love to play long sets with the time to explore a wide range of genres and vibes throughout the night. To my surprise people started showing up quite early and the place was already packed around 1am! The crowd was a beautiful and colourful mix of people from all ages and backgrounds! It was so nice to see. I remember that night it was bloody hot and the aircon wasn't working so people were getting completely naked. The heat kind of added to the mania and people were really pushing me to play harder and crazier. I really loved the give and take of energy and by the end I felt we had all been through something together.

This mix is a lot more chill than what I played that night, but I do remember playing a lot of Australian stuff. Things from Hymns, Reptant, Logic1000 and others so I tried to play as many Australian and especially Sydney artists as I could. Thanks for having me, hope you enjoy :) " - Kate Miller
