The Plutonium is the private studio of the John Steel Singers, based in Kelvin Grove, Brisbane.

A space that eschews the modern studio aesthetic, the Plutonium puts bands back in the same room as each other. Musicians are challenged to perform and the results can be captured in a variety of natural or stylised ways. At the Plutonium, we create an environment where songwriters feel comfortable to explore and enhance their craft, and which fosters artistic growth in young bands. The large 7.6x

4.4x3m live room is furnished with an eclectic and diverse selection of modern and vintage guitars, basses, drums, keyboards and 1926 Beale upright piano. The space is acoustically treated in consultation with Ultrafonic and is large enough to accommodate a full band playing in the room together. Amplifiers are able to be partitioned off or put in a separate amp booth and vocals can be sung in the control room - with sightlines - for isolation purposes. The spacious 4.5x6.7x3.2m control room looks through to the live room, whilst retaining excellent isolation. It houses a 24 channel 1973 Auditronics 110 Grandson console, in addition to a selection of modern and vintage outboard equipment by Urei, API, Empirical Labs.
