Fantastic to host Deputy PM and Defence Minister Richard Marles MP at Gallipoli Medical Research to showcase how they enhance the health and wellbeing of veterans and their families through innovative medical research.

GMR’s CEO Miriam Kent demonstrated their Mental Readiness for Military Transition Scale (MT-Ready) a world-first psychometric tool to predict difficulties a veteran may experience when transitioning to civilian life and the appropriate supports that are required.

In the GMR labs, Professor Darrell Crawford shared how scientific and medical experts investigate new and innovative treatments, interventions and educational programs that make an extraordinary difference to the lives of veterans and their families

Great Italian food matched the company as industry leaders from the employment, skills, training and small business sectors broke bread with Queensland Shadow Minister Brent Mickelberg MP - Member for Buderim and Rebecca Young at Casa Italia in New Farm.

Not only is Brent on top of his brief, but his humility shone through.

As a result of his service in Afghanistan, Brent shared his PTSD challenges and how important it is to maximise the skills and expertise of veterans as they transition to the civilian workforce.

'Meat me at the grill' was the theme as Logan City Mayoral candidate, Jon Raven for Mayor, lunched with 150 staff at Holmwood Highgate Aust Pty Ltd in Loganholme.

Holmwood Highgate's David Mellish intrinsically understands a BBQ is the ultimate crowd-pleaser.

There were smiles,all round, as Jon shook hands with every employee.

Brisbane corporates were out in force to raise money to build Communify's Bindi Bindi Place at Zillmere

It’s an early intervention centre to help 0-6 years olds at risk of entering the child protection system, particularly First Nations children.

Today I had dual roles:
- Hosting Win Win Outcomes table with The Hon Milton Dick MP (blatant name drop!); and
- Being a 'first time' auctioneer - Thank you Steve Wyborn for your generosity in bidding for the Brisbane Lions Corporate Box experience.

I love Jon’s description of Logan as the epicentre of South East Queensland with Logan Entertainment Precinct to the north (Brisbane), Logan Shores to the south (Gold Coast), Logan Ranges to the west (Toowoomba) and to the east, Logan by the Bay (Redlands)

Being invited to engage the Queensland Liberal National Party’s leadership team at a Queensland Economic Future Forum
was a Win Win Outcome for both my clients and the potential future Government of Queensland.

It was also cool to have the opportunity to sit in the Speakers Chair on our tour of Parliament House.

It’s no surprise Holmwood Highgate CEO Wade Mellish and Logan City Councillor Cr Jon Raven hit it off . . . they’re both passionate about creating local jobs and boosting the Logan economy.

Holmwood Highgate, a third-generation Aussie business, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of bulk liquid storage and transportation systems.

Cr Raven, who chairs the Council’s Planning, Economic Development and Environment Committee, got to witness firsthand the big goals they are kicking, particularly in the defence industry space.

Wade and his team played an integral role in World Fuels tender for JP8190, delivered 30 Mobile Tactical Refuelling Modules for the Australian Defence Force and works with Rheinmetall to deliver fuel and water modules for Defence’s fleet of logistics trucks.

To top it off, Holmwood Highgate was awarded a ‘Made in Queensland 4’ Grant to introduce robotics into the manufacture of transport units for commercial and military applications.

Today I reconnected with Karni Liddell whose life was shaped by a simple 'head nod' - A small act which had a great impact!!!

Karni shared her lived experience along with other great advocates Dylan Alcott OAM, Dr Lisa Chaffey ClinScD PLY, and Paul Harpur at the launch of uLaunch.

Hosted by Professor Peter Shergold, uLaunch partners with people living with disability, illness and injury to co-create new pathways to fulfilling and meaningful employment.

Karni’s parents gave her the all important head nod when she shared her dream to become an Olympic swimmer despite the doctors saying she’d never walk – Karnie went on to represent Australia at the 1996 Paralympics.

Like everyone, people with a disability need community allies to believe they can achieve. Karni went on to become a role model for others – because you can be what you can see.

Forty percent of uLaunch’s staff identify as having a disability.

GESS Education's Cristine Russell continues to drive innovation in the Education and Training sector.

Esports, or competitive video gaming, has surged in popularity, with skilled players competing in events from local to international level.

From their magnificent Southport campus, GeSS Education’s Esports program is now in full swing with eager students at the starting line to make a career in this multi-billion-dollar industry which is projected to generate $1.6 billion in 2023.

While my gaming skills are extremely rusty, GeSS Education has already produced its first champion with Lucas Malissa who winning the Olympic Esports Series ISSF Challenge in Singapore featuring Fortnite – Australia’s first esports gold medal.

Then ending the day talking all things aviation thanks to the hospitality of ‘The Great Douglas Pye’ at BNE Enterprise Corporate Partners event.

A stronger charities sector leads to more cohesive communities and a more inclusive society.

That was the theme at the Charity Sector Town Hall session hosted by The Hon. Andrew Leigh - Assistant Minister for Employment, Competition, Charities and Treasury.

Assistant Minister Leigh outlined the Federal Government’s Charity Sector Blueprint to partner with Australian charities and strengthen the sector.

It was an opportunity to introduce Chris Boyle from StandbyU Foundation and Micheal Leighton from Designer Life Training to share their world-first solution to support families at risk of family and domestic violence through the StandbyU Shield. It allows those afflicted by domestic violence, to develop the independence, safety, security, quality of life and peace-of-mind to return to social engagement, training and ultimately the workforce.

For a 'political tragic' it was a huge buzz to host former Prime Minister John Howard at the launch of the new book, "John Howard - From the Pavilion - Shaping the Ascent to Power".

Edited by my great mate Andrew Blyth the book showcases John Howard’s weekly columns published in The Australian in 1989 after he lost the Liberal Party leadership.

These articles are a time capsule of national and international events and set the scene for his ‘Lazarus with a triple bypass’ rise to become Prime Minister from 1996 to 2007.

More than 100 guests were spellbound as Mr Howard shared the trials, tribulation and successes of being Australia’s second longest serving Prime Minister.

Big thank you to Marty Rowen and the Gadenss team who put on a function for the ages.

Accelerated degrees, better industry collaboration, work integrated learning and the maximisation of the human talent for people with a disability, migrants, First Nations people and regional communities will create future opportunities and help overcome workforce challenges according to Queensland’s leading workforce, education and training thinkers.

Professor Helen Barrett, Professor Carolyn Evans, Professor Geraldine Mackenzie, Professor Margaret Sheil, Professor Deborah Terry & Ann Rodger.

With 9 out of 10 new jobs requiring post school qualifications the need to skill, reskill and upskill our people is imperative in the fast moving and ever changing global environment.

University of Queensland, Vice-Chancellor, Deborah Terry said we are currently experiencing two concurrent workplace revolutions.

1. Advanced Technological Revolution which threatens jobs, particularly white collar jobs; and
2. The Transition to Net Zero Revolution which will create new jobs.

The good news is the jobs created by the Transition to Net Zero Revolution will outstrip the jobs lost to the Advanced Technological Revolution

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Australians with disability – and their families - over the past decade.

It was an absolute pleasure to connect Minister Bill Shorten to some of Australia’s leading disability experts and advocates at our 5 O’Clock Forum hosted by Gadens.

With one-in-five Australians living with a disability, Minister Shorten outlined his plans to ensure the NDIS can provide life-changing outcomes for future generations of Australians with disability.

A big thank you to House of Representatives Speaker, Milton Dick MP for inviting Minister Shorten to Brisbane and the team at Gadens for hosting a wonderful event.
