We are delighted to announce the appointment of Brett Loughlin as the new South Australian Country Fire Service Chief Officer.

Brett brings to the role nearly 20 years of emergency service experience and immense internal knowledge.

He has worked for CFS since 2015, when he took up the post of Region 1 Commander. Since that time, he has performed the role of Director Preparedness Operations and Director Regional Operations and most recently, the role of Executive Director Operations.

Prior to joining CFS, Brett served with the NSW Rural Fire Service for over 10 years.

Under this new leadership, CFS will continue to empower the community in managing resilience and preparedness, and support our 13,500 volunteers and staff cohort.

It is our deepest regret to confirm that two SA Country Fire Service members were involved in an incident at the Coles fire, involving a falling tree. This incident resulted in one fatality and one serious injury. Family and other personnel have been informed and are being offered support at this time. The seriously injured CFS member has been taken to hospital for further treatment.

The safety and wellbeing of our people is our highest priority and our thoughts are with our CFS family at this time.

It’s been a day of firsts and lasts at the CFS today.

After completing his first day in the CFS’ new HQ at Keswick, Deputy Chief Officer Rob Sandford has completed his last day with the CFS.

With some 30 years under his belt, Mr Sandford has been a huge part of CFS decision making and a great support to volunteers across the state.

While he’ll be sorely missed we wish him best in his retirement.
