Pavel Míček Architect’s paradoxical cottage

The southern part of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountain landscape is an extraordinary place, with almost no other buildings nearby with the exception of just a few scattered homesteads. The Snøhetta-designed restaurant also functions as a research center for marine life, providing a tribute to the wild fauna of the sea and to the rocky coastline of Norway’s southern tip.

Casa Meztitla is an intervention of a natural scenario. It showcases the luxurious value of leisure, the tropical weather, the intense sunlight, the smells of nature, the over 500 year-old landscaped terraces and the ever-present rock mountain: El Tepozteco. It is context in itself. The house, built out of rough stone, crawls low under the trees, aligned with the vegetated-covered stone slopes. It is the creation of pure space within the natural space (Paz, O., 1987). It has an introverted living yet is continually open to its surroundings. Only two elements reveal its existence to the outside world: the colourful bougainvillea flowers showing randomly through the trees’ dense foliage, which mark the plot’s perimeter; and the massive and monolithic white box that emerges through the treetops

Located in a residential area of Mexico City, Caúcaso House rises one meter and thirty centimeters above the sidewalk in order to take advantage of the view, because the site is in a privileged point where the west is seen beyond the horizon and over the tops of the trees, leading to a basement level one meter below the sidewalk where the parking area and services are located.

The solution was to remove vertical circulations from the inside, and the result was an intersection of two staircases, one closed and one open, which give the project a playful minimalism, but not in the plastic sense, but economic, taking the words of the client as a basis for the design. A façade with program, essential for the project, a façade that cannot be removed, with horizontal repetitions, which simplify the whole when seeing it in its entirety. The white color works as the guideline, as a integrator, leaving the sun to be the protagonist while painting the façade with light, turning the project into a canvas where the shadows can be seen in different forms throughout the day.

Terrace House Renovation / O2 Design Atelier

The house is located at a new housing development area at Sungai Buloh with standard lot size of 22’x75’. The Client’s intention is maximize the internal space of the house by extending it outwards.

The interior of the house has been designed with open plan concept, connecting Living, Dining and Kitchen space. At the center of the house, a double height space is created with greenery, natural light and shadow. The traditional concept of courtyard house has been reinvented here. In these spaces, the original upper floor slab and ceiling have been removed and some of the roof tiles have been replaced with clear polycarbonate roof tiles to bring in natural light. Two big trees and low shrub are planted at the centre of the house. On the upper floor rooms, walls have been replaced with sliding windows to create cross ventilation and interaction between upper floor and lower floor.

“Chameleon Villa” located in Buwit, a village in the lush interiors of the southwest coastal area of Bali. Constructed on an acre of land, overlooking a dense forest and a gentle river below, the villa sits on a steep contour with an 11-meter difference of level between the arrival area and the river that runs the western length of the property. Given such a spectacular location, the challenge was to create an architecture that truly connected with its surroundings and that integrated well with the topography of the site.

Situated in the restored historic lobby of the San Francisco Proper Hotel’s nearly 100-year-old landmark flatiron style building, Villon restaurant takes its name from Jacques Villon, a French Cubist painter and artist at the turn of the 20th century. Brother of the better-known Marcel Duchamp, Villon (his chosen pseudonym) preferred a more modest image, yet one just as sophisticated and accomplished. This is the essence of Villon, an intimate and richly detailed space combining furnishings and elements from various European modernist styles inside a Cubist inspired envelope.
