SFJ’s ASKS HINDUS OF INDIAN ORIGIN TO LEAVE CANADA

Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a pro-Khalistan organisation banned in India in 2019, has threatened Hindus of Indian origin and asked them to leave Canada for supporting the country of their origin and “promoting violence” by celebrating Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing. “Indo-Hindu leave Canada; go to India. You not only support India but you are also supporting the suppression of speech and expression of pro-Khalistan Sikhs,” said SFJ’s legal counsel Gurpatwant Pannun in a video, which has gone viral. Pannun has been designated as a terrorist in India. SFJ has said it feels “emboldened” by the Trudeau government’s recent actions of disengaging with India. In an opinion piece in the Canadian national daily The Globe and Mail, Andrew Coyne called for the need to keep the peace domestically in the aftermath of Nijjar’s killing. “There will be many Sikh Canadians who will be left shaken by Mr Nijjar’s killing; some will be enraged, and some of them may be tempted to engage in reprisals of some kind.” Coyne warned the risk of ethnic and sectarian bloodshed in Canada is real. India, dominated by politicians from the Hindi heartland Hindutva have been using brutal force mercilessly against any move to free Kashmir, Khalistan, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Manipur where wars of liberation keep on going in one form or the other. These states are rocked by a large number of armed and violent rebellions, some seeking separate states, some fighting for autonomy. In the recent years, India’s counterinsurgency strategy to crush these movements has badly failed. Modi’s war-mongering strategy has increased country’s defence budget, as New Delhi also continued purchasing arms and weapons from the Western countries, particularly the US and Israel. In fact, Modi’s extremist policies have been backfiring on India-overt and covert intervention through RAW in the world.

CANADA-INDIA DIPLOMATIC CRISIS ESCALATES OVER ESPIONAGE

Diplomatic tensions between Canada and India have spiralled out of control, resulting in the mutual expulsion of senior diplomats. The charges involve activities incompatible with their diplomatic status. Canadian security agencies are actively investigating credible allegations linking Indian government agents to the assassination of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a case brought to the forefront by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly announced the immediate expulsion of the Indian diplomat based in Ottawa, who served as the cover for the Station Chief of India’s intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Nijjar, a leader in the Khalistan movement and Sikh for Justice, was fatally shot in broad daylight in Vancouver in June. Vancouver, home to a large Sikh migrant population from Indian Punjab, saw a record turnout in a recent referendum for an independent Khalistan from India, with over 130,000 Sikh participants. Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, leader of the Sikh for Justice movement, has boldly accused Indian diplomats of involvement in Nijjar’s assassination. Pannu emphasizes the international exposure of alleged Indian intelligence agency conspiracy. Pannu further suggested that the expulsion of the senior diplomat might be followed by the removal of Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Verma, implicating his knowledge of the plot.

URANIUM THEFTS IN INDIA POSE THREAT TO WORLD

The theft of nuclear material over the last two decades in India posed a serious threat of nuclear terrorism, necessitating action by the global powers to address the poor safety standards in the country. A number of uranium/radioactive substance theft incidents in the recent past occurred in India, which indicated the presence of a black market for nuclear materials inside India. In 2021, 6.4kg of uranium in Jharkhand and likewise 7kg of uranium in Maharashtra were confiscated by the Indian authorities. On 26 August 2021, 250kg of uranium variant a highly radioactive and toxic substance worth $573 million was confiscated in Kolkata and two persons from Indian strategic organizations were arrested. In December 2006, a container packed with radioactive material was stolen from a fortified research facility in the town of Rajrappa (Ramgarh district). According to experts, such incidents raised serious questions over the safety and security of huge stockpiles of fissile material within India. In 2008, police arrested five people in the north-eastern Indian state of Meghalaya on charges of smuggling uranium ore. Similarly, in 2009, Mumbai Crime Branch arrested three people for illegal possession of 5kg of depleted uranium. The Indian Environmental Portal said that a review of ‘unusual occurrences’ contained within the Indian Atomic Energy Regulatory Board’s (AERB) annual reports revealed there had been 16 cases of loss, theft or misplacement of radioactive sources since 20001 in which radioactive material found its way into the environment. “These are not isolated incidents as India’s history is replete with such evidence of possible involvement of national gangs in creating a black market for uranium trade,” a number of defence analysts opined.

LEGITIMIZATION OF DISCRIMINATION ENABLED VIOLENT HINDU NATIONALISM

HRW in its report says: “Since Modi’s BJP came to power in 2014, it has taken various legislative and other actions that have legitimized discrimination against religious minorities and enabled violent Hindu nationalism”. In many states, criminal justice system increasingly reflects discriminatory views of BJP, targeting religious and other minorities and critics of government, and shielding its supporters. Passed a citizenship law in December 2019 that discriminates against Muslims making religion the basis for citizenship for first time in country. In August 2019, government also revoked constitutional autonomy granted to only Muslim-majority state IIOJK (a disputed territory) and imposed restrictions in violation of people’s basic rights. Most recently, three BJP-ruled states have passed anti-conversion law which in practice is used against Muslim men who marry Hindu women. BJP ruled states Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand – already have anti-conversion laws that are being used against minority communities, especially Christians, including from Dalit and Adivasi communities. States used laws against cow slaughter to prosecute Muslim cattle traders even as BJP-affiliated groups have been attacking Muslims and Dalits on rumors that they killed or traded cows for beef. Since May 2015 over one hundred Muslims have been lynched to death and hundreds injured in attacks by Hindu cow vigilantes affiliated with BJP/ Bajrang Dal. Police often stalled prosecutions of the attackers. Several BJP politicians publicly justified attacks and in a number of cases police have filed complaints against victims/ their family members/ associates.

INDIA-UNEMPLOYMENT/ JOBLESSNESS

This has fueled discussions about how India might generate employment for this growing workforce and harness its ‘demographic dividend.’ Country’s youth are supposed to be the engine propelling it forward. Instead, they are the ones finding it hardest to get a job in current economic climate. The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), a private organization estimates India's unemployment rate in India is around 7.95% at present. It is 7.93% in urban India whereas only 7.44% in rural India. Of the 1,000 or so job seekers who attend these bimonthly fairs, approximately 10% succeed in getting a job. But neither recruiters nor recruits seem to be excited about employment prospects on offer. Recruiters are of view that youth who attend these fares are mediocre college graduates with few or no skills. In May 2023, India overtook China as the world’s most populous country. It also has one of the youngest demographics in world: 66% of the population is below the age of 35, and 1 in 5 young people in world is Indian. Unemployment rate has consistently increased over last two decades from 2% in 2010 to 5% in 2015 and 6.1% in 2018. According to CMIE, the latest figure is around 8% the highest it has ever been. Situation is particularly dire among young people, where unemployment is recorded at a staggering 40%. Educated youths have been hardest hit, especially college graduates from outside India’s largest cities, who have studied subjects like agriculture, history, English, philosophy and communication. Between 2021 and 2022, 18.7 million people applied for central government jobs in India. Of these, only 38,850 were hired. That’s a success rate of 0.2%. Individuals with doctoral degrees and engineering and MBA graduates are among thousands who apply for jobs as a street-sweeper or an orderly for the police positions that require only a fifth-grade education.

HARASSMENT OF JOURNALIST IN INDIA

With an average more than a dozen journalists killed in connection with their work every year, India is one of world’s most dangerous countries for media. Journalists are exposed to all types of physical violence including police violence, ambushes by political activists, and deadly reprisals by criminal groups or corrupt local officials. Supporters of Hindutva, the ideology that spawned Hindu far right, wage all-out online attacks on any views that conflict with their communally narrow thinking. Terrifying coordinated campaigns of hatred and calls for murder are conducted on social media, campaigns that are often even more violent when they target women journalists, whose personal data may be posted online as an additional incitement to violence. Situation is also still very worrisome in IIOJK, where reporters are often harassed by police/ paramilitaries, with some being subjected to so-called ‘provisional’ detention for several years. Charges of defamation, sedition, contempt of court & endangering national security are increasingly used against journalists critical of government who are branded as anti-national. In February 2023, BBC prepared/ telecasted a documentary India. The Modi Question exposing Modi’s role inter alia in Gujarat pogrom against Muslims. Government banned BBC documentary from airing in India and used emergency laws to force Twitter & YouTube to take down clips. In a vindictive act India's tax authorities raided BBC's offices in Delhi & Mumbai. This humiliation continued for several weeks. There was three days’ ruthless search against the international broadcaster.

INDIAN FALSE FLAG OPERATION - URI ATTACK 2016

An attack on Indian army base Uri was carried out on 18 September 2016. The purpose was to instigate tensions at Pakistan- India border and to build a narrative for a pre-emptive surgical strike in Pakistan. The Indian government had claimed that the Indian army was able to destroy a militant’s camp in AJK. Their superficial claim was challenged as it was not possible to cross LoC in the Presence of Pakistani Army. There is no doubt that it was pre-planned by the Indians, therefore, the government of Pakistan had demanded an international investigation. Pakistan took a stance that the attack was an attempt to divert the attention of the international community from the violations committed by Indians in IIOJK. Whereas, India has got the state of the art weapon. They are using satellites, drones, anti- drone technologies. The have multi-layer defences. In the presence of all this, if they are not being able to stop this infiltration, then there is serious question mark on Indian professionalism. German Investigative Journalist Elias Davidson in his book, “The Betrayal of India: Revisiting the 26/11 Evidence” highlighted that India has history of false flag operations from 1971 to till today. When India feels, it is not being able to cope up internal rift, Indians launch a false flag operation for political gains. From the unrest in New Delhi to the chaos in Karnataka, Pakistan has been held responsible for every incident of restlessness in India, irrespective of their complex and prolonged internal factors, but Indian government failed to provide any evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in these terror attacks. India is still trying to construct a narrative to declare Pakistan as a troublemaker in the region; however, by doing so the Indian government is itself jeopardizing the stability of the South Asian region to serve this purpose. It is high time Indian false flag operation must be exposed and ended downright. Or else the dangers of such false flag operations in this highly nuclearized zone could develop into something beyond imagination of any.
