The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, withdrew from us one morning during the morning prayer until we were about to see the moon of the sun. He said: As you are on your ranks. Then come to us. He said: I will tell you what kept me from you in the morning. I got up during the night and prayed as much as was decreed for me, then I fell asleep in my prayer until I became heavy, and then, by my Lord, may He be glorified and exalted, I am in the best form. He said: O Muhammad, what is the chief assembly fighting for? I said: I don't know, Lord. He said, O Muhammad, about what the supreme assembly disputes with? I said: I don't know, Lord, so I saw him place his palm between my shoulders until I felt the coolness of his fingers on my chest, and everything became clear to me and I knew. I said: in penances and degrees. He said: What are the expiations? I said : Moving feet to Friday prayers, sitting in mosques after prayers, and doing ablution well on unpleasant things. He said: What are the grades? I said: Feeding food, speaking softly, and praying while people are asleep. He said ask. I said: Oh God, I ask you to do good deeds, to leave evil, and to love the poor, and to forgive me and have mercy on me. And the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: It is true, so study it and learn it. O Allah, I ask You to do good deeds, leave evil deeds, and love the poor, and that You forgive me and have mercy on me, and if You want discord among a people, then let me die without being tempted. And the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: It is true, so study it and learn it.
