Mkoba South MP, John Kuka has donated rain gauges to schools in his constituency. Some of the schools that have received the rain gauges are Roman Catholic run, St Paul’s, Muunga Primary, Mambo Primary and Budiriro Primary.Kuka said he decided to donate the rain gauges after noticing that most schools do not have weather stations.

The rising number of dog bites in Zimbabwe, particularly those attributed to unvaccinated dogs, is a pressing concern. According to the Weekly Disease Surveillance Report, 635 dog bite cases were reported in the week ending January 5, 2025, with no fatalities. However, the fact that 118 (18%) of these cases involved unvaccinated dogs is alarming.

Zimbabwe recorded 47 murder cases in six days, barely after President Mnangagwa’s signature abolishing death sentence had dried.Police expressed grave concern at the alarming murder figures.National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed in a statement that there were 47 people murdered throughout the country at Christmas; from December 20 to December 26 2024. His statement indicated that most of the reasons for murder were trivial and premeditated, a possible indication that there isn’t sufficient deterrence to the crime.

A 50-year-old man from Chawira Village, Chiguhune in Gutu sired two kids aged 4 and 8 from an incestuous relationship with his daughter and the matter is now with the Police and the Zimbabwe Gender Commision (ZGC). Village head, Patrick Madziva said the man, whose name cannot be disclosed in order to protect the girl was caught by his wife, his children and neighbours on many occasions having s*x with his daughter who is now aged 25. Villagers however, expressed concern at the slow pace of the investigations by Police and ZGC and the traumatising conditions under which the girl is living. The girl who was removed from home to allow investigations to take place is staying alone at the home of a relative in Soti Source Resettlement Area while her young twin sisters who are witnesses to the case are still to come back home to school after they were also sent away to another relative. Shamwari Yemwanasikana Director, Ekenia Chifamba said it was not proper for the victim and her two sisters to be staying with relatives, instead the Social Welfare Department should have taken custody of them. ZGC Director, Virginia Muwanigwa said she needed to get an update on the matter for her to comment on the issue.

Vurombo Primary School head Regina Chidzurira (63) retired from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education after serving 40 years on December 31, 2024,
Chidzurira told The Mirror that she took an early retirement to focus on agricultural projects at her plot in Mvuma. She was due for retirement on June 24, 2026.

Police is investigating 10 security agents; among them CIOs and cops who were on a spree arresting and demanding bribes from vendors and business operators. They arrested the suspects or impounded goods on the guise that they were smuggled. They then allegedly demanded bribes of up to US$3 000 to drop the cases and return goods. They are facing many cases and in one of them, they received US$760 bribe from an Ethiopian who they accused of travelling without proper documents and posessing smuggled goods. They went into shops bought goods using Zig and if the price was more than the bank rate, they would demand bribes. The accused are Hungwe, Chatikobo (CIO), Tafadzwa Siwela, Batsirayi Madhongo, Takunda Vezha and Daniel Chishapira (CID), Edias Mugabe (Police Intelligence), Mukamuri (ZIC) Mushonga (WNFP) and Assistant Inspector John Chinyani. The case came out when the victims said they had had enough and decided to report to Gokwe Police Officer In Charge who then sent a memo to the Officer Commanding Midlands.

Residents of Chiguhune in Gutu are baffled by the story of a 50-year-old villager, allegedly caught on many occasions having s*x with his daughter and is believed to be the biological father of her two kids.

Ten ZRP officers and some CIO members in Gokwe are being investigated for allegedly extorting various amounts of money from vendors and shopkeepers after arresting them.According to a Police memo seen by The Mirror, the syndicate would allegedly arrest business operators for different offences but offer to drop the cases if they paid bribes.
