Important Notice To Masvingo Residents

My office has been inundated with calls and concerns following a statement issued by yesterday. The statement regards payment of bills at the council offices and I want to set the record straight.

I wish to clarify and set the record straight as wish to also make sure that we do not burden the residents or punish them for the things that they do not have control over nor are we also the authors such government policies as directed by the .

All residents who wish to make payments at the town house must feel free to use their currency of choice as all acceptable currencies remain legal tenders unless otherwise. We know the council also need cash payments but that burden can not shouldered by the residents.

We know that there are illegal money changing activities happening around the town house to the extent that some money changers mile around the vicinity with their multiple cards soliciting for USD cash from prospective rate payers which is illegal.

Going forward, we have notified the Police of these illegal activities and we shall also deploy our municipal police and undercover to apprehend anyone found touting & illegally trading in Forex near or around town house. The following measures shall also apply...

The person paying or swiping using a bank card must bring with him or her his or her identity details matching with the card that he or she is in possession of. The council shall only allow the owner of the card who possesses his/her identity card to make a payment.

No bank card shall swipe for multiple accounts on the same day and anyone doing so shall be held accountable to the extend of questioning the relationship between the rate payer and account being paid for. Note that each swipe card must pay for own or one account per day.

Anyone found soliciting for cash around town house shall be handed over to police and we urge residents to cooperate with our security details to avoid any inconvenience. It is illegal to trade in foreign currency and we shall not allow our city to be prey to this also.

We urge residents to also report cases of our workers who are also converting foreign currency that you hand to them at the point of payment. Make sure that you are given a receipt in the currency that you have used to settle your payment

During this time, we call for cooperation from all various departments , residents and organisations to adhere to these set obligations which are all subject to ammendment from time to time as we race against the escalation of prices.
