*WOMEN & ELECTORIAL VIOLENCE*

Over last decades, women around the globe have made historic gains in politics and political life as activist, voters, political party members and elected representatives bringing it with a lot of posetive effects for women, democracy and soceity.
However as women step forward, they are met with challenges such as discrimination, harrasment, physical or sexual assaults and violence while these challenges have discouraged them from being politically active. Political violence can be both ways men and women but mainly the specific issue of violence against women has been driven by these factors, it mainly targets women because of their gender.
Research shows that violence keep women out of politics in Zimbabwe, and fewer women have participated as candidates in elections since independence in 1980 compared to men. Zimbabwe has always recorded a lower percentage of women participating as candidates in elections since 1980 despite constituting more than half of the electorate and of the total 15 million people in the country. The nation since then adopted a pro gender equality constitution that stipulated the reservation of 60seats from the current 270 in parliament, however despite this quota system an attempt to achieve equality and encourage women participating in national decisions making platforms remains low, this is because of various stereotypes which have been used to undermine their capability to be active in politics.
Women are deemed too weak to lead and are often presented as having loose morals or as mercenaries for ruling party or opposition party.
