The Gweru Provincial Hospital today hosted the 30th anniversary commemorations for the Surgical Society of Zimbabwe which was established by a group of surgeons at a time the country had less than 40 surgeons but to date SSZ has helped to train hundreds of surgeons with 300 working in Zimbabwe.
Speaking during a tour of the facilities, Dr Brian Paketh highlighted that their society was grateful to the government of Zimbabwe for funding the purchasing of high calibre equipment that has allowed surgeons to save lives.
In an effort to cut on medical tourism as well as ensure decentralization of medical services, the second republic has also funded the purchase of equipment that will see knee replacements being done at G.P.H in the near future.
Speaking on behalf of First Lady Dr Auxilia Mnangagwa, Hon Owen Ncube said that SSZ has been instrumental in expanding access to quality surgical care across the country through decentralization that has seen qualified surgeons now serving in various cities and towns for the benefit of all Zimbabweans underpinned by the second republic's devolution agenda of leaving no one and no place behind.
