Mucheke, the nightmare bridge for motorists
Mucheke, the sole bridge connecting all traffic from South Africa, Beitbridge, the lowveld and all the high density suburbs of Masvingo to the rest of the country is heavily congested daily for the past two weeks as incessant rains have destroyed the only other entry point into Masvingo CBD, Chimusana Bridge.
This has left vehicles queuing for nearly an hour to cross the 800m stretch from Craft Centre into the CBD.
Mucheke Bridge is being upgraded by Masimba Construction and efforts to get a comment from the company’s secretary Pearl Mutiti were futile as her mobile was unreachable. Work on the bridge began in June 2024 and is expected to be completed in February 2025.

Lightning kills Marange granny (103)
103-years-old Mbuya Loice Madzirerusa from Batsira Village in Marange was struck by dead by lightning recently as she was picking up metal cups and dishes in her thatched house. Manicaland Acting Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident to The Mirror.
Dr Dzingai Mutumbuka who recently won back his Chisipite residence sold fraudulently after the title deed was forged cannot occupy it because the illegal buyer maliciously vandalised the property to the tune of US$70 000; removing doors and door frames, window frames, destroyed the roof, gate, electric fence, geysers, borehole, water tapes and other key installations on receiving an eviction order from the High Court. The house is just a shell. Dr Mutumbuka reported Harrison Marange and his wife Demetria Zirenga at Highhlands Police under RRB 6254587 for the vandalism. High Court Sheriff, Regina Tadzoka invited Dr Mutumbuka to report the matter at her office. Dr Mutumbuka spent a fortune and went through traumatic stress fighting the case in the courts to recover the residence valued at US$600 000.
