President E.D. Mnangagwa took a break from his leave to meet with the Zimbabwean inventor Maxwell Chikumbutso at the State House.

Chikumbutso has developed an innovative technology that uses radio waves to power generators, motorbikes, and vehicles via a microscopic device, converting radio frequencies into energy. This technology, which occurs naturally, has attracted global interest and will be launched on February 10th in Zimbabwe.

The Saith motor vehicle, created in partnership with a Chinese company, boasts an unlimited driving range, a top speed of 220 km/h, and a self-parking system, with production costs of USD 14,000 per unit. Plans for a manufacturing plant in Zimbabwe are underway.

President Mnangagwa praised Chikumbutso as a brilliant inventor, emphasizing the importance of nurturing such talent for the nation's benefit. He highlighted it as a true embodiment of the mantra Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo.

US President Donald Trump has suspended foreign aid, cutting off the supply of vital HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria treatments to some of the world’s most vulnerable regions, including South Africa.

With programs like PEPFAR now frozen, millions who depend on these life-saving medications are at risk.

The move has sent shockwaves through aid organizations, who warn that this suspension could have devastating consequences, particularly in South Africa, where millions rely on foreign assistance to combat these diseases.

Zimbabweans Anticipate End to Loadshedding Woes as Government Sets Concrete Date

By Chris Matambanadzo

Great news for Zimbabweans! The government has a plan to ease the long hours of loadshedding, and Energy and Power Development Minister Edgar Moyo shared the details.

Ministry’s Strategic Roadmap

According to Moyo, relief is expected by the end of this month when one of the units at Hwange Power Station becomes operational. The ministry has a roadmap in place, already approved by the Cabinet, outlining its strategy to address the energy issue until 2025. The plan aims to eliminate imports, boost solar generation, and enhance power production efficiency by repowering units one to six at Hwange.

Understanding the Energy Challenge

The current loadshedding situation is due to reduced power generation at Kariba Dam caused by low water levels, generating only 250 to 300 megawatts compared to the usual 1050 megawatts. Additionally, at Hwange, Unit 7 tripped two weeks before its scheduled maintenance.

Loadshedding To Ease by Late November, Confirms Energy Minister

Moyo revealed that Unit 4, which has been down due to faults, is expected to come online by the 21st of this month. Once Unit 7 is back in operation, repairs on Units 1 to 6 will commence. Moyo emphasized that the repair process will be gradual, taking one unit offline at a time. While acknowledging it will take some time, Moyo expressed confidence in ongoing independent power production projects which he expects to provide up to 600 megawatts.

We are going to begin to experience reduced load shedding at the end of November when Unit 7 comes on board. We are working on repowering Units 1 to 6 and each time we are repowering these units, we are going to be taking one unit out at a time. Once it is repaired, we take another unit. It is going to take a little bit of time, but however, we are banking mainly on independent power production projects that are ongoing and can give up to about 600 megawatts,ā€ Edgar Moyo said.

Mother Kills 9-Year-Old Daughter Over Mahumbwe

By Patie

The police arrested a Shamva mother after she kills her 9-year-old daughter. The young girl tragically lost her life due to a severe beating stemming from an innocent game of pretend called ā€œhumbleā€ in Shona or ā€œukuleleā€ in Ndebele.

According to an official X post on the ZRP page, a 35-year-old woman named Sinalence Kufandirori is in custody on charges of murder. Her crime involved using a switch to inflict brutal harm on her daughter, Ropafadzo Meki, resulting in the child’s untimely demise.

The Police Statement

As detailed in the police statement, the incident occurred on the 3rd of November, 2023, at Maxton Farm in Shamva. Ropafadzo engaged in the playful game and used authentic meal meals and cooking oil. Her mother, Sinalence, got angry and used a switch to strike her daughter repeatedly all over her body. Tragically, the child lost her life while being rushed to a self-proclaimed prophetic healer in the area.

A Disturbing Trend of Parents Killing Children
This is not an isolated incident; unfortunately, it reflects a disturbing trend of parents or guardians resorting to violence in the name of discipline.

One such case involved Lydia Kahwema, who received a four-year prison sentence for killing her 13-year-old son. The boy had been sent home from school for lacking a pen, and Kahwema subjected him to a brutal assault with switches and even smashed his head against a wall.

Gospel Musician Ivy Kombo and Husband Arrested Over ā€˜Fake Law Degrees’

By Audrey L Ncube

In a shocking turn of events, gospel musician Ivy Kombo and her husband, Pastor Admire Kasi have been arrested. The couple was apprehended on charges of fraudulently obtaining fake certificates to practice law in Zimbabwe.

This startling revelation comes after it was discovered that they had claimed to possess Bachelor of Laws degrees from England.

According to the Herald, their arrest was carried out by Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) investigators, who uncovered the disturbing details surrounding their legal qualifications.

Ivy Kombo and her husband, Pastor Admire Kasi’s arrest comes merely a couple of months after they were admitted as lawyers.

In February 2023, Ivy Kombo and her husband were among a group of 12 individuals who were officially admitted as lawyers at the High Court.

Their accomplishment had garnered widespread attention and praise from the public. Addressing her followers after being sworn in, Ivy Kombo-Kasi conveyed a message of inspiration and opportunity, stating;

ā€œWe are really grateful to become lawyers and to be serving the country. So guys you need to understand that it’s never too late. You can achieve it, you can make it. Me being a mother of five, here I am, a career changer.

However, it has now come to light that their certificates were allegedly obtained through fraudulent means. It is alleged they got them through the assistance of a suspended official from the Council for Legal Education.

Notably, Ivy Kombo held an LLB Law and LLM International Commercial Law degree from the University of Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom. While her husband held a Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Buckingham (UK).

The couple is set to appear at the Harare Magistrates Court this afternoon, where they will be facing grave allegations of fraud and perjury.
