*Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA)* are multi-disciplinary arts awards that recognise and honour exceptional individuals and collaborative artistic efforts in the city of Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South, Further BAA will honour those born in Bulawayo and practicing arts around the world. The Bulawayo Arts Awards are not meant to counter any awards or forms of recognition in Bulawayo or the country

in general but are intended to compliment the efforts that are already being made to recognise, encourage and honour artists from the greater Matabeleland region. The awards are being curated to recognise good effort and talent amongst our artists. The inaugural edition of the awards will be held in *June 2017*

This morning, we received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Ishmael “Litshe” Muvingi, also known as Stone or by his totem “Samanyanga.”

Ishmael, who was honored as the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards 2018 Outstanding Theatre Actor and was the 2023 Outstanding Theatre Actor Nominee.

For 30 years, Ishmael dedicated his life to the arts, touring the world with Siyaya Arts and Umkhathi Theatre Works, bringing his incredible talent to audiences in Europe and Asia. His versatility was unmatched, seamlessly juggling dance, music, and acting.

Before 1994, Ishmael was a passionate fan of dance, hip hop, and rugby, showcasing his diverse interests and talents from an early age.

Your creative works and vibrant spirit will forever be remembered, Ishu. Rest in peace. 🕊️
