*Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA)* are multi-disciplinary arts awards that recognise and honour exceptional individuals and collaborative artistic efforts in the city of Bulawayo, Matabeleland North and South, Further BAA will honour those born in Bulawayo and practicing arts around the world. The Bulawayo Arts Awards are not meant to counter any awards or forms of recognition in Bulawayo or the country

in general but are intended to compliment the efforts that are already being made to recognise, encourage and honour artists from the greater Matabeleland region. The awards are being curated to recognise good effort and talent amongst our artists. The inaugural edition of the awards will be held in *June 2017*

The Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards Trust announces the postponement of the 8th edition of the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RBAAs) to August 2025.

This morning, we received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Ishmael “Litshe” Muvingi, also known as Stone or by his totem “Samanyanga.”

Ishmael, who was honored as the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards 2018 Outstanding Theatre Actor and was the 2023 Outstanding Theatre Actor Nominee.

For 30 years, Ishmael dedicated his life to the arts, touring the world with Siyaya Arts and Umkhathi Theatre Works, bringing his incredible talent to audiences in Europe and Asia. His versatility was unmatched, seamlessly juggling dance, music, and acting.

Before 1994, Ishmael was a passionate fan of dance, hip hop, and rugby, showcasing his diverse interests and talents from an early age.

Your creative works and vibrant spirit will forever be remembered, Ishu. Rest in peace. 🕊️

📸 Ernet Sibanda is the Outstanding Arts Photographer award.

During his acceptance speech, he was joined on stage by Kingshee_Art, a fellow nominee, and SaDee LensWorks the 2021 winner, who has been a great mentor to both photographers. The category was presented by Mgcini Nyoni, three-time award winner from 2017 to 2019.

We celebrate the Icons, who have enriched our arts and culture with their talents and contributions.

They are the Thandanani Women’s Ensemble, who keep our traditional dance alive and vibrant; the Black Umfolosi, who mesmerize us with their vocal harmony; Thabani H Moyo, a Theatre Practitioner who has produced top notch productions.

Ericah Gwetai, who inspires us with her books; Hudson Simbarashe, who plays the guitar with passion and skill; Ezra “Tshisa” Sibanda, who has a powerful and captivating radio voice; and the late Cal Vin, who left us a legacy of hip hop songs that we cherish and enjoy. This came with a gift of a school fees voucher for any school of her choice for the next seven years.

We thank them all for their incredible roles in our arts. They are truly LEGENDS.
