*OK Till Operator, Boyfriend, Guards In $90 000 Grocery Theft*

AN OK Zimbabwe Chinhoyi branch till operator, her boyfriend, and two security guards have appeared in court following their arrest for allegedly stealing groceries worth $ZW$89 879,76.

The quartet of Nadine Murangwani (23) and her lover, Admire Mondo (30), Securico (Private) Limited guards Linoti Mutori (43) and Tendai Mburuma (36) is facing theft charges, as defined in Section 113 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23.

Chinhoyi Magistrate Tamari Chibindi Wednesday admitted the four to bail and remanded the matter to February 23, 2022.

The complainant is OK Chinhoyi represented by Travolta Sande, a closed-circuit television (CCTV) operator.

The state case, led by Clever Nyapfani, is that on January 22 this year at around 11:30 am and at an OK Chinhoyi branch, Murangwani was spotted writing on a piece of paper which she handed to one of the guards, Mutori, who in turn passed it on to Mondo, who is the till operator’s boyfriend.

Mondo then proceeded to load grocery items onto a shopping trolley before going to his girlfriend’s till at the liquor section.

The court heard that Murangwani processed half of the items in the trolley and gave her lover and Mutori some plastic bags which were not paid for.

Joanna Girlie Moyo-Sibanda was the first Zimbabwean black woman to get a driver’s licence. Sibanda, a self-driven woman, hails from Bulawayo. She defied all odds and got her first driver’s licence in 1968.

She said the journey to her securing her driver’s licence wasn’t a walk in the park.

“I got my licence in 1968 but it came after a struggle. I had a car but I needed a licence and when I tried to get one they refused to allow me as they said they did not know any black woman who drove a car. They simply refused,” she lamented.

She revealed that the people in charge refused to give her a drivers licence because they didn’t know any black woman who drove a car. However, through perseverance and help from a few people, she finally managed to secure her very own first driver’s licence.

They said black women used scotch carts and sleighs so why couldn’t I also do the same? I then realised that I was failing my driving tests because the people in charge did not want me to pass because I was a woman. But in the end, with the help of a few people, I managed to get my licence,” she said.

*Mwonzora Will Be Remembered As The Undertaker Of The MDC – Jonathan Moyo*

Exiled former Information Minister, Jonathan Moyo, has said MDC-T leader, Douglas Mwonzora, orchestrated the demise of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) brand.

He made the remarks this Thursday after the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa morphed into the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) after Mwonzora claimed that he was the leader of MDC Alliance and all MDC derivatives.

Some analysts say the split of MDC-T into two factions, one led by Mwonzora and the other led by Thokozani Khupe as well as the formation of the CCC marks the demise of the MDC brand. Pindula News previously quoted Mwonzora as denying that the MDC-T had split.

*Tropical Depression Ana: Rains Sweep Away A Bridge, Collapse Houses In Manicaland*

A bridge was swept away while a number of houses collapsed and roads were damaged mainly in Manicaland due to heavy rains caused by the overland Tropical Depression Ana.

Muchira Bridge in Chimanimani’s Ward 22, which connects with Ward 21, was extensively damaged by the rains while Tombo-Magadzire road in Nyanga district is now impassable.

The Civil Protection Unit continues to assess the extent of damage caused by the Overland Tropical Depression Ana.

District Development Coordinator for Nyanga, Mr Nyashadzashe Zindove, confirmed that 19 houses were damaged. He said:

Basically, we have been affected mostly in Wards 21, 12 and 11. Apart from the four blocks at Nyafaru High School that had their roofs blown off, we also have 14 households that collapsed in the area.

In Nyanga urban, we have five houses that collapsed. We are in touch with those affected through local leadership and we should be able to give the necessary assistance in due course.

He said they established 31 evacuation centres prior to the heavy rains where people will bring their food and stay until necessary repairs are done to their homes.

In Chimanimani, a number of disaster preparedness mechanisms have been put in place including the provision of 86 evacuation centres.

This comes when memories of Cyclone Idai are still fresh in the minds of many who lost relatives, and or properties.

The tropical depression evolved in the Mozambique Channel on Sunday and gradually intensified into a Tropical Storm named Ana.

Tropical Storm Ana hit the Mozambique coast around noon on Monday with a maximum speed of 110 kilometres per hour.

The falling over land turned the tropical storm into an overland depression which gradually lost strength.

*Grade 7 Results Not Yet Out- ZIMSEC*

The Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZMSEC) has said results for the 2021 Grade 7 examinations are not yet out contrary to social media reports.

A WhatsApp message circulating on social media appeared to have fooled two radio stations – CapiTalk and StarFM – which had to run retractions on Wednesday.

ZIMSEC said marking ended early this week, and there were some processes to follow that would delay the release of the results by at least another week.

ZIMSEC spokesperson Nicky Dhlamini told ZimLive on Thursday:

The results are not yet out. We have to ask parents and pupils to be slightly patient with us.

As you will recall, exams ended a week before Christmas and marking only started after the New Year. We have not taken more time than previous years, it’s just that the sitting of the exams and the marking started late, compared to prior years.

Marking may have ended this week but that’s not the end. Now we are engaged in the process of grading the marks awarded by the markers, and then we will release the results. That’s a week at least.

Dhlamini said Continuous Assessment Learning Activity (CALA) outcomes were being added to the final marks for the first time, adding new workloads.

Social media is awash with Zimbabweans endorsing the yellow colour adopted by the newly rebranded opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) led by Nelson Chamisa.

Chamisa and his members resolved to dump the name MDC Alliance due to the controversy that surrounded the acronym (MDC).

This came after smaller opposition MDC-T indicated to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) that it would contest future elections under the name that Chamisa used during the last plebiscite in 2018.

*Party members to nominate by-election candidates: MDC Alliance*

THE Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance has said candidates for the March 26 by-elections would be nominated at grassroot level to allow for democracy to prevail.

The party also said recalled MPs and councillors would be allowed to contest if the communities endorse their candidature.

There are 28 vacant parliamentary and 117 council seats following the recall of MDC Alliance legislators and councillors countrywide.

Party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the party would be guided by its membership in the selection of candidates.

“The consistent position is that all candidates are going to come from communities as announced by president (Nelson) Chamisa last year under our citizens agenda for change now under the people’s agenda,” she said. “As we go towards by-elections, candidates will be subjected to an internal process, and a balance has to be struck between those who were recalled and obviously ensuring that the wishes of the citizens are respected.

“As we speak, the MDC Alliance is currently subjecting every single candidate to an internal review process which includes huge and widespread consultations with the citizenry because at the end of the day, the goal is to come up with a good candidate who is agreed to by the citizens, and the community they represent by way of consensus. We are already in the process of implementing community-driven candidate selection.”

Meanwhile, Chamisa’s party said it would not give up on the MDC Alliance name.

This followed MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora’s recent letter to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) where he sought to bar Chamisa from using the MDC Alliance name and symbols.

MDC Alliance deputy national spokesperson Felix Magalela Sibanda told NewsDay that: “Mwonzora’s moves show that he is just desperate for survival after Zanu PF threw him under the bus. Only a competent court can set that declarat

*Marry awaits verdict as State closes her case*

VICE-PRESIDENT Constantino Chiwenga’s estranged wife Marry Mubaiwa, who is being accused of attempting to forge her marriage certificate, will know her fate on February 4 when Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube delivers a verdict after the State closed its case yesterday.

The State closed its case after leading evidence from 11 witnesses, including the Vice-President.

On Monday, Mtetwa resisted the State’s attempts to submit written evidence by the late jeweller Michael Louzidis who allegedly designed the couple’s marriage rings before he died.

“The admissibility of the statement under current positions requires the State to thoroughly examine the witness. Twelve witnesses were called but they denied false representation, and what is in the State outline does not say the accused misrepresented. We do not know what the deceased knew about this case, and he cannot be cross-examined because he is no longer there,” Mtetwa argued.

Louzedis passed away on December 14 last year before he could take to the witness’ stand.

Ncube dismissed the State’s application saying it would be unfair to accept the statement considering that the defence would not be able to cross-examine a deceased person.

The State alleges that Mubaiwa attempted to have the marriage between herself and Chiwenga illegally solemnised at a time when the Vice-President was battling for life in a South African hospital.


She, however, denies the charge. Her lawyer yesterday asked the court to give her up to Friday to apply for discharge.

Mubaiwa also faces fraud, money-laundering and assault charges.

*ZIFA president Felton Kamambo’s trial deferred again*

ZIFA president Felton Kamambo’s trial deferred again. Suspended ZIFA president Felton Kamambo was back in court yesterday, but his trial couldn’t continue because the presiding magistrate, Bianca Makwande, was not available.

Kamambo appeared before regional magistrate, Noel Mupeyiwa, who remanded the matter to January 25. Micheal Reza appeared for the State and was set to lead evidence from the remaining three witnesses.

The case has been before the courts since 2019. Kamambo is facing bribery charges.

Allegations are that in December 2018, he used his EcoCash account to offer various amounts to ZIFA 2018 Congress voters. This, according to the State, was allegedly meant to induce voters to vote for him.

The State alleges there was no agreement, or arrangement in place between the ZIFA Electoral Committee and voters, entitling them to receive anything from those seeking office.

Kamambo received 35 votes, against the 24 votes received by Philip Chiyangwa, and was declared the winner of the ZIFA presidential vote.

Norton MP Temba Mliswa (Independent) has described Zanu PF party spokesperson Chris Mutsvangwa as “politically immature” after he criticised his recent private meeting with former Chivi South MP Killer Zivhu and exiled former Cabinet minister Saviour Kasukuwere in South Africa.

Social media was awash with photos of Kasukuwere, Mliswa and Zivhu together last week following their meeting in the neighbouring country.

In a hard-hitting statement on Monday, Mutsvangwa blasted Kasukuwere after he said Zanu PF should be saved from President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s misrule. He later described Mliswa as “a lost soul rapidly losing burnish”.

“One of them is in limbo as a garrulous cantankerous political independent — a lost soul rapidly losing burnish. He now desperately clutches onto the coat tails of a sister (Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs minister Mary Mliswa-Chikoka), who prefers to ride onto the fortunes of a mainstream Zanu PF party and its tried and tested leader, Cde ED Mnangagwa,” Mutsvangwa said.

The attack on Mliswa-Chikoka did not go down well with her brother, Temba, who immediately took to micro-blogging site Twitter to vent out his anger on Mutsvangwa.

“Mutsvangwa’s statement is a manifestation of his patriarchal, garrulous and vindictive political attitude which provide a basis for his poor career as a politician. Mutsvangwa was G40 together with Kasukuwere until he was used and expelled. That’s his source of anger,” Mliswa said.

“He was part of G40 when it teamed up with Lacoste and expelled a faction accused of supporting Mai (Joyce) Mujuru, Gamatox. I was part of the victims. He was ambitious and thought he would be VP after that, but his allies booted him out. He has harboured that anger since then.”

Mliswa said Mutsvangwa should not use party letterheads to vent his personal anger.
