Let me take this opportunity to congratulate Zongwe FM community Radio team, the board and the whole Sinazongwe community for this achievement. Please extend our best wishes to all dignitaries, authorities and honourable guests present.

We note that Zongwe FM hereby is in a better position to serve the communication needs of the community and local authorities as well as NGOs and local business.

At the same time we understand your concern that any limitations and restrictions of the range of the radio broadcasting should be overcome especially as far as your brothers and sisters across the River are concerned. To the contrary: It seems obvious that a close cooperation with Twasumpuka CRS on the Binga shore of the lake would benefit the community development on both sides.

We pledge our further interest, sympathy and support for Zongwe FM especially in terms of capacity building and further cultural exchanges across the waters and the continents.

With best regards

On February 26/27th 2022, the Austrian artist Wolfgang 'Fadi' Dorninger undertook a "24-HOURS" online streaming MARATHON whereby he presented a series of his musical (and video) recordings live and remixed. One of the highlights thereby were his numerous encounters with the music of the Tonga, whom he first met and heard of when a joint ensemble of Tonga musicians - the group SIMONGA from Siachilaba in Zimbabwe and MALIKO from Sinazongwe across the Lake Kariba in Zambia - took part at the 3-days "Parade" in Linz / Austria.

Zongwe FM Calling to build a Radiobridge across the Zambezi River !

Your contribution is welcome to strengthen Zongwe FM community radio station in Sinazongwe / Zambia to improve communication links within the Tonga community on both sides of Lake Kariba and foster its connection with the Global Village!

Thanks to the commitment of the local community of Sinazongwe and assisted by the District Council a new building for the studios and transmitter of Zongwe FM has been raised on top of a hill above the village and shores of Lake Kariba. Now the next step ahead is the relocation of the studios currently hosted by Sinazongwe Basic School and built in 2007 with the help of radio activists from Austria. The new location promises more space and a greater outreach - even across the Lake Kariba on its Southern shores into Zimbabwe.

Dear all,

We have just received the sad news from Kennedy / Radio Zongwe FM via facebook:

"A dark cloud has covered Sinazongwe. His Royal Highness Chief Sinazongwe has departed to be with The Lord. May his soul rest in peace
I pray that we put the differences aside and send our father in peace."

read my posting / reply: this is sad news indeed. We feel very sorry with his family and the Sinazongwe community at large about this incredible loss. Chief Sinazongwe was such a beacon for the development of the community and the preservation of Tonga culture. I was looking forward to meet him again for Lwiindi 2019 ceremonies, now overshadowed by his passing on. We hope that his work will be taken up by his successor and the younger generation. May his soul rest in peace!

with regards

Peter Kuthan

Dear partners, co-operators and friends,

The Austria-Zimbabwe Friendship Association learned with deep sadness of the passing of Frank Mudimba, Director of Basilwizi Trust, on 27th October. He has always been a good partner in the work of promoting Tonga culture and access to IT education over many years.

Frank was such a strong contender for the BaTonga people, and a valuable asset in terms of excellent leadership and high standards of operation in all his work. Watch his contribution to our recent exhibitions in Austria "Recalling cultural exchange: Statements from Zimbabwe and Zambia"
https://www.dorftv.at/video/22794

After the untimely death of our Zimbabwean partner Keith Goddard nine years ago, we were thankful for the willingness of Frank and Basilwizi Trust to take up the Tonga.Online project, to protect and promote our work of many years, starting with the 1997 Nyaminyami Festival - A Celebration of Valley Tonga Culture. The subsequent IT and radio
projects between Austria and the Tonga area have been giving a lively voice to the community and empowering so many up to this day.

Frank will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, to all members of Basilwizi Trust and to the Tonga community at large.

We wish Basilwizi Trust strength in their continued work for the Tonga community and the people of the Zambezi Valley.

with best wishes
