MAROONED TRUCKS IN NDOLA TO BE CLEARED UNDER EMERGENCY
By Stafrance Zulu
Government has effected emergency response to clear hundreds of trucks currently marooned between the stretch from Ndola's Mitengo area to Sakania Border.
The border is situated some 32 kilometres on the outskirts of Ndola, now a fast-growing border post between Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The affected trucks are all destined for DRC laden with assorted goods and fuel.
During a conducted tour of Mitengo through to the border post it was learnt that Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has been clearing 50 tanker trucks per day thereby leading to a long build up of trucks on Ndola-Mufulira Road.
And Ndola’s District Commissioner Joseph Phiri said the situation should be treated as an emergency.
He observed that the situation can breed diseases such as Cholera, HIV/AIDS and teenage pregnancies in the District.
He appealed to ZRA to clear as many trucks as possible so as to create space for the 50 fuel tankers that are supposed to be cleared per day.
“We will ensure that we clear 150 goods trucks per day. We are also going to engage the Ministry [ of Transport and Logistics] so that we can also clear at least 100 fuel tankers per day," he said.
Meanwhile the Zambia Army border centre officer Emmanuel Makoleka said the congestion on the road was also due to non-compliance by some truck drivers who are fond of skipping the legitimate queue.
And Copperbelt regional Commanding officer Dorothy Nyambe said the Zambia police service will work with the Zambia National Service in ensuring that security and order is maintained whilst decongesting the roads.
Ms Nyambe said officers will be mounted at three points; Ndola Road, Mitengo-Sakania Road and at the border post to man the process.
This according to a statement issued today by Copperbelt Province principal public relations officer Marilyn Rose.

FOREST RANGERS SHOOT THE BANKERS OUT IN THE HILLS
Forest 2-0 Zanaco
By Stafrance Zulu
Forest Rangers yesterday showed character by pulling themselves up from the doldrums of the relegation zone when they thwarted Zanaco FC before jubilant home fans at Dola Hill Stadium.
It was as if an academic lesson to orient the affluent Bankers that 'You don't get to the forest hills with money but without a gun'.
The spirited Fole Malembe took to the pitch knowing the match was highly contentious as both teams sit in the relegation zone.
Granted, it was not a mere win that both teams were fighting for but a sneaky exit from danger zone.
In a 15:00 hours kick-off, Week 19 game, barely 24 minutes in play, Francis Debra was brought down in the penalty box and the referee steadily awarded the Rangers a gun to shoot when he pointed to a penalty spot.
It was the experienced Kola who stepped up to converted a much needed lead on the 25th minute.
It took the magical left foot cracker off the 18-yard box by the seasoned defensive midfielder Benson Kolala to find a winner.
Forest Rangers head coach Ian Bakala said the team had done well and showed improvements following instructions given by the coaches. He said there was still room for growth and a long way to go.
"Our fight is to move out of that position. Looking at the team back then and now, you can tell the difference, and everyone understands the assignment," he said.
Forest Rangers now sit a slot above Zanaco at 16th position with 19 points while Zanaco has 17 points.
Malembe's next win may put them above NAPSA Stars with 21 points, Mutondo Stars with 20 points and Lumwana Radiants 20 points, supposing the three teams lose in their next fixtures.
If that happened, Fole Malembe will be smiling to the bank off the relegation zone in Week 20.
