GRANT WANTS TO GRANT ZAMBIA LAST 16

Chipolopolo boys National team head coach Avram Grant is optimistic that his boys will progress to the last 16 of the ongoing AFCON in Cote D'Ivoire.

The Israeli was speaking during the pre-match press conference at Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro, Cote D'Ivoire.Grant admitted that his boys didn't account themselves well in some departments , however the gaffer called for improvement as they battle it out with the Taifa stars of Tanzania, who lost there first game by 3-0 to Morocco.

“We want to qualify to the next round. We are always looking to improve in all aspect be it defence or offence. I don't think about losing before the game. We know it's a tough game but we think positive about each game,” Grant said.

Grant said Zambia will approach the Tanzanian game with caution and wants to avoid conceding early by applying high levels of concentration.

“This game is different as the opponent is different. We shall approach it with caution. After we scored we conceded too early but that is football and it is sometimes the nature of the game. Our target is to qualify to the next round. We will work hard and we will prepare for anything.”

Meanwhile Chipolopolo high flying forward Fashion Sakala says the Chipolopolo boys are ready for war with Tanzania in group F.Sakala was speaking vehemently and he wants Zambia to make a statement at the tournament by posting positive results despite the chipolopolo boys being a Young squad with little AFCON experience.

“We are ready to fight. We did our best (in the Congo Match) and we are looking forward to the next game and the team is ready to fight,” Fashion Sakala said.

Sakala added that the current Zambia national team are trying very hard to emulate the 2012 squad which won the trophy against all odds.Sakala urged the fans back home to continue rallying behind the team and the team will do there level best not to disappoint them.

“We have a young squad and that is a good thing for us to prepare. We started well with a draw. We are trying very hard to get the results and as was in 2012 where Zambia was not the better team but won the championship, we will do the same.”

“every game is very important and our eyes are on the AfCON, this game will be tough but we will prepare for Tanzania,” he said.

The Taifa stars will go into their second game of group F AFCON without their head coach Adel Amrouche , who is serving his 8 match ban after alleging CAF of being controlled by Morocco.As the Algerian gaffer serves his ban assistant coach Hemed Suleiman Ali will stand in from the dugout.

Suleiman was adamant when responding to journalists that , the head coach has not been fired.And the Taifa stars assistant added that he has great respect for Zambia and over what they have achieved in football , but it won't be an easy game.

“We know Zambia is a good team we respect them but we are ready to play with them. They are a strong squad and they want to win like we want to win so its going to be a tough game,”Suleiman said.

All the four teams in group F stand a chance of progressing to the next round of the competition although it's largely dependant on there next two games results they will post.Morocco has 3 points, Zambia and DR Congo are on a point each and Tanzania is at the bottom with 0.Zambia will tussle Tanzania at 19:00 hours local Zambian time on Sunday.

Zambia national team head coach Avram Grant said his team are not scared of any individual in the Congolese team.The gaffer further said he is focused on getting a positive results because he believes in his teams hard work.

Meanwhile Captain Lubambo Musonda is also buoyed with confidence ahead of their clash against Congo DR tonight.Musonda said the Zambia national team has exhibited professionalism, hardwork and unit of purpose which will be key as they try to compete favorable at AFCON.

Grant: "They are strong on paper but football is not played on paper (its played on the pitch) we'll try to play as a team because that's our strength."

"We are not scared of anyone. We play for each other, we fight for each other, we fight for every point as a team. And like what the coach has said, football is not played on paper. The boys know whats at stake, we are ready," Said Lubambo Sailas Musonda Zambia national team captain.

An injury time penalty in the second half by Bertrand Traore was enough to seal a victory for Burkina Faso.
