Burial procession for the 10 people who died at Lwiili Gold Mine is underway in Ntambo Village in Nangoma – Mumbwa District.

Hundreds of people have gathered to witness the burial.

The 10 died when part of the earth curved in as they were digging gold at Lwiili Mine on Monday this week.

Ten people have died in an accident at Luili Gold mine in Mumbwa.
Five others remain trapped while another five have been retrieved alive and are nursing injuries at Nangoma Hospital.

CHARCOAL PRODUCTION PERMITS BANNED IN 3 DISTRICTS. By Hope Chooma The Government has banned issuance of permits for Production of Charcoal in Mumbwa, Shibuyunji and Itezhi Tezhi districts. Announcing the ban, Green Economy and Environment Minister COLLINS NZOVU said the ban on issuance of Cord- Wood permits is due to the unprecedented levels of deforestation in the country. Hon Nzovu who is also Nangoma Member of Parliament says people currently in possession of valid Cord Wood Permits have only up to May 1, 2024 within which to finalise their charcoal production. Mr. NZOVU has expressed concern that the tree estates in Zambia have continued to be subjected to a lot of pressure from a number of factors. He explains that among the factors are numerous requests for degazetting of forest reserves and the high levels of illegal cutting down of trees for charcoal production.

TRAIN AND TRUCK ACCIDENT NEAR MISISI COMPOUND Police in Lusaka have recorded an accident involving a Zambia Railways Goods Train and a Howo Sino Truck and Trailer. The accident happened today around 14:30 hours along Tokyo-way near Misisi Compound in Lusaka when the driver of the Truck failed to give way to the Goods Train which had a right of way. Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale who has confirmed the development explains that the Train was headed for Southern Province while the Truck was moving towards the eastern direction from misisi compound area towards Kamwala South direction. Mr Mwale said no injuries have been recorded from occupants on both the train and the Truck. He said officers from the Zambia Police Service and Road Transport and Safety Agency are currently on the scene to regulate traffic.

CHIEF CHIKUPILI WARNS CHARCOAL PRODUCER'S IN LUANO DISTRICT.. Chief CHIKUPILI of Swaka speaking people of Luano District has warned his subjects and charcoal burner's in his chiefdom to desist from cutting down Trees illegally to curb climate change. Chief Chikupuli,was Speaking this in his speech lead for him by Kampelembe chief chikupili advisor, MUMBA MUSONDA, said charcoal and chitemene system continue to cause the indiscriminate cutting of trees which results in deforestation and climate change. The chief chikupili,was speaking this at Kampelembe combined school in Luano District during launch of the National tree planting. And , chief chikupili has thanked the one acre farm organization for coming to his chiefdom in Luano District to educate his subjects the dangerous of deforestation and the important of trees planting through the musangu trees,which the one acres farm organization has delivered at his chiefdom. The Traditional leader has since called for every one in Luano District consented effort in Ensuring trees are conserved to live in a green and health environments.
