Popular Nollywood comedy actor John Okafor AKA Mr. Ibu has died.

According to reports, Ibu died on Saturday while receiving treatment at a hospital in Lagos.

The President of Actors Guild of Nigeria Emeka Rollas Ejezie took to his Instagram on Saturday night announcing that Mr. Ibu suffered a cardiac arrest.
β€œMr. Ibu suffered cardiac arrest according to his manager of 25 years Don Single Nwuzor. I announce with deep sense of grief that Mr. Ibu didn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace,” Ejezie wrote.

In November 2023, Ibu’s family announced that the actor’s leg was amputated for medical reasons.

The family, in a statement shared on social media, said that Mr. Ibu underwent a few surgeries before the amputation to save his life.

"This development has been hard on us all but we've had to accept it as Daddy's new reality," it read.

The family further urged Nigerians and fans to support them, noting that their father’s condition is delicate.

The comedy actor has starred in dozens of Nollywood films including Aki and Pawpaw, Keziah, 9 Wives and Mr. Ibu in London

Charity Katanga waves at journalists shortly before she was taken to a correctional facility where she will start serving her three-year jail term.

Earlier today, Lusaka Chief Resident magistrate Davies Chibwili found Ms Katanga guilty of possession of 10 Higer Buses (Mayo Maria) worth K26 million suspected of being proceeds of crime and jailed her for three years, simple imprisonment.

The court found that the convict failed to prove that the buses in question were bought using legitimate sources.

2 MINING BROTHERS DIE IN CHINGOLA AFTER ROCKFALL

Two brothers aged 20 and 30 have died in Chingola after rocks fell on them as they were conducting illegal mining activities.

The two have been identified as Lucky Mutale, 20, and Joseph Musonda, 30, who died at Luano open-pit mine between 24:00 hours and 01:00 hours on Tuesday.

Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said in a statement that the mine accident was reported by the victim’s parents, Marrien Nshindano, 52, and Charles Silwimba, 62, of Nchanga.

Mr Mweemba said the duo left for the open-pit mine with friends on Tuesday around 18:00 hours.

β€œThe two were conducting illegal mining activities when the rocks fell on them and their colleagues only managed to retrieve them when it was too late,” he said.

The two victims were rushed to Nchanga North General Hospital, where they were certified dead.

In December, over 30 illegal miners were buried while digging tunnels at Senseli open-pit mine. Some of the miners remain unaccounted for to date.

The Chingola incident was followed by another one in January at the Chinese-owned Macrolink copper mine in Ndola where seven miners, including two Chinese nationals, have been trapped in a flooded mine.

Namibian President Hage Geingob has died at the age of 82, his office has said, less than three weeks after it was announced he would undergo treatment for cancer.

Geingob died on Sunday at Lady Pohamba Hospital in the capital Windhoek with his wife and his children at his side, acting president Nangolo Mbumba said in a statement posted on Geingob’s official page.
