Zambia makes ITF return after 11 years

ZAMBIA will today make its long-awaited return to international tennis action after 11 years out when 11 budding stars compete at the Confederation of Africa Tennis (CAT) and International Tennis Federation (ITF) 2025 Southern Zone Junior tournament in Namibia.
The under-14 and under-16 ITF events for both boys and girls would take place in Windhoek and run until January 13.

Quake: HH shares grief with China

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has sent a message of condolences to his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping and the families who have lost their loved ones in a devastating earthquake in Rikaze, Xizang autonomous region.
According to a China Global Television Network (CGTN) report, at least 126 people were confirmed dead and 188 others injured as of Tuesday night after a magnitude-6.8 earthquake jolted the location.

17 notorious junkies arrested in Lusaka

THE police have arrested 17 “junkies” who have been terrorising and stealing from moving trucks on Lumumba Road in Lusaka.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the police had on Tuesday January 7, 2025 around 10:00 hours received intelligence information stating that the 17 suspects had been terrorising, climbing onto moving trucks, and stealing assorted items from truck drivers.

THE approval and review of project proposals under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has been delegated to provincial local government officers to cut down on bureaucracy and expedite implementation of projects.
The composition of the Constituency Development Fund Committee (CDFC) has also been expanded to include youths, women and religious voices to promote inclusiveness and more community participation in CDF implementation.

SCZ board coming – Nkandu

SPORTS Minister Elvis Nkandu says a Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) board will be in place before the close of the first quarter.
In an interview yesterday, Nkandu said his ministry had started identifying names suitable for the board.
“I have heard associations complaining about the appointment of the National Sports Council board. Yes, we understand that has been an issue, but they should not worry. Will do that before the close of the first quarter this year. We have already started identifying names of individuals that could be part of the board. www.timesepaper.com

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hakainde HichilemaHichilema has directed Chief Justice Mumba Malila to ensure that the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is implemented in full to expedite the disposal of cases and delivery of justice.
Speaking when the Chief Justice of Uganda Alfonse Owiny Dollo paid a courtesy call on him at State House yesterday, President Hichilema said that this would ensure that cases were disposed off quickly because the law was already in existence.
