OUR PRIORITY SHOULD BE MENTAL HEALTH, NOT MASKING PEOPLE, NOT IMPOSING IRRATIONAL MANDATES.
BY JOHN WILSON SAKALA
Inadequate mental health support, the stress for many of living in poverty vs high lifestyle expectations all around & promoted by the media and living away from the support of extended families create despair.
Psychosis & psychology should be taught in schools, especially the 10 personality disorders, how to identify them, how to live with it & what to do if someone you know has a condition.
Mental health is now the no.1 problem in the world. Look at the mass formation psychosis
it is caused by unwarranted fear & panic on unemployment, failed relationships, divorces for example. Everyone can live with all these but people have to know what to do.
Mental health is caused by social media, media bias, poor diets, lack of exercise, genetics, bad parenting, drugs, smoking, sugar, unemployment, relationship etc. Not living in accordance with one's values & ethics for example, the unconscious mind will punish you severely if you don't do this, so be warned.
Su***de. Men in their late 30's are amongst the highest risk of su***de. We need to be able to talk about male mental health and destigmatise men being able to seek help. If we refuse to acknowledge it, the problem is only going to continue.
The issue of male su***de is actively ignored. The issue is completely skirted around in public discourse. The level of shame associated with it is palpable. Doing this hides the pain, loss and devastation it causes. It also prevents supportive conversations taking place.
This shame forces men to internalise their feelings. As admitting it stigmatises themselves & invites derision. Our society still expects men to be emotionless pillars of salt. However, internalised & repressed feelings don't go away. They fester & eat you away from the inside.
Just over 2 years people have narrowly survived a period of poor mental health, many have wanted to end their pain & suffering they were in. They thought no one would care & the world would be better off without them. They were lucky to have a moment of clarity just before they went through with it & sought help.
Some great mental health support from some heath Mental space, the health service, friends and family. Some are lucky and everyday since is a gift, they're doing better. Now, some can't bear to see other men go through this alone. they can't bear to see men hold back & hide the pain they're in.
If you are struggling, if you have feelings of self harm or ending it all. Please don't be ashamed, you are not weak. You've just been strong for too long. Many other men have been through what you've been through. You are not alone. There is support & help available.
It's easier to slay a demon when it's a team effort.
