Shiwangandu member of parliament Stephen Kampyongo has said the
Registrar of societies must desist from engaging in lawlessness by directing all political parties to hold intra party elections.

Speaking during a press briefing at the national assembly today, Mr Kampyongo said the securities act been sited does not compel political parties to go for conventions but is in tandem with independent political party constitutions.

He explained that application of such a law in a manner it is been interpreted by the registrar of societies.

The law maker has therefore asked political parties not to panick stating that it is not the role of the registrar of societies to dictate to political parties to fill up their roles.

He urged the registrar of societies to do the right thing by following the law and refrain from threatening political parties.

The National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) and Zamtel have launched the USSD platform designed for the members of Nhima in order to make their contributions.

And speaking at the event today in Lusaka, the Director General for NHIMA Michael Njapau says Zamtel unstructured supplementary service data USSD will enable NHIMA members to able to make their monthly contributions easily without having to worry about having internet connectivity.

He says the Zamtel USSD platform strategy was formulated with the interest of esteemed members who are in self-employment and the majority of the Zambian workforce in the formal sector in mind.

Meanwhile, the acting Chief Executive officer for Zamtel Jason Mwanza said the launch of the service will enable all NHIMA members to make their contributions through the Zamtel bank account.

He says this is a service that will be available even to those with smaller phones.

He therefore says the service will enable members of nhima to have access on their status through the USSD platform.

Scores of traders left hopeless in Lusaka CBD

Scores of street vendors have been left standing hopelessly on most corridors of major roads in the central business district of Lusaka (CBD) .According to the affected traders spoken to by this reporter, the operation to remove the makeshift stalls was conducted last night without warning and only woke up to a rude shock. Street vendors been warned previously of a pending removal following serious public health concerns especially in the CBD of Lusaka. No immediate place for their re-allocation has since been announced. ENDS

The 26 year old woman of Kitwe who allegedly killed two Engineering students from the Copperbelt University has been granted a K5,000 cash bail in her own recognizance with two working sureties.
ESTHER APONDE’s lawyers applied for bail, when she appeared in court this morning for explanation of the charge before magistrate OSWALD CHIBALO.
Ms. APONDE is facing two counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
Ms. APONDE on 25th of June , 2023 is alleged to have caused death of TABO MUMBI a 3rd year Engineering student and CHRISTIAN BWALYA, a second year engineering student both from the Copperbelt University.

Mumbwa Urban Clinic mortuary records a case of a missing body.

Central Province Minister and Mumbwa Member of Parliament (MP) CREDO NANJUWA said this is the first time such a case is happening in the Province.

Mr NANJUWA further said his office has since informed the Ministry of Home affairs to help with the case.
Government has directed law enforcers to thoroughly investigate the matter of the missing body at the Mumbwa Urban Clinic mortuary.

A Russian citizen has been killed by a shark off the Egyptian famous beach.

A tiger shark attacked the man as he was swimming off the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada on Thursday afternoon, Egyptian and Russian officials confirmed.

An eyewitness caught the moment of attack on camera and shared the video with Reuters. It shows the man, in his early 20s, thrashing about in the sea before being dragged under water.

According to Reuters, a diver described how a lifeguard at a nearby hotel had raised the alarm and people had rushed to help, but were unable to get to the man in time

Russian Consul-General Viktor Voropayev identified the man as V Yu Popov, who has been living in Egypt for a while and was not a tourist,

Egypt’s environment ministry said swimming, snorkeling and other water sports in the area have been banned for two days, starting from Friday.

The consulate passed on its condolences to his family and friends, and urged Russians be vigilant when in the water and abide by swimming and diving bans imposed by the Egyptian authorities, Tass said.

Justin Welby, spiritual head of the Anglican Church has urged the Anglican Church in Uganda to reject the new anti-LGBTQ law just approved by the President of Uganda.

In May 2023, The president of Uganda signed a punitive anti-gay that includes the death penalty, enshrining into law an intensifying crackdown against LGBTQ people in the conservative East African nation.

The Archbishop of Canterbury said the law goes against Christian teachings.

“There is no justification for any province of the Anglican Communion to support the criminalisation of LGBTQ people: not in our resolutions, our teachings, or the Gospel we share” he said.
