Police arrest Lusaka Yango Driver over murder of student nurse

A Lusaka taxi driver has been arrested in connection with the murder of 24-year-old student nurse Silvia Nanjela, who was allegedly murdered and robbed on Independence Day.

Nanjela, a student at ZIPS Nursing School, had booked a taxi from Twin Palm area to Kamwala South around 02:00 hours with a friend who resides in Kamwala compound. After her friend dropped off at Kamwala, Nanjela continued her journey to Kamwala South with the driver.

Upon reaching her residence, Nanjela asked the driver to park by her gate. She then took her black handbag, removed K100 to pay for the ride, and attempted to exit the car. However, the taxi driver suddenly struck her repeatedly on the head with an empty bottle.

Nanjela shouted for help, but the driver started the car and drove away with her still inside. Despite struggling and shouting for help, the driver continued to assault her with another bottle. In her attempt to escape, Nanjela became entangled in the seatbelt, causing the driver to lose control and crash into a drainage.

Fortunately, a good Samaritan came to her aid, prompting the driver to flee the scene with Nanjela's handbag containing K400. He left his vehicle, a Toyota Vitz with registration number BLB 6050, with the keys still inside.

Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Chilabi Godfrey confirmed the incident, stating that the victim was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital with multiple head injuries. She succumbed to her injuries three days later.

Following investigations, police successfully arrested the suspect. "The vehicle has been impounded, the suspect is in custody, and will appear in court soon," said Chilabi.

We are ready to strike when called upon - Army Commander

ZAMBIA Army Commander Lt. General Dennis Alibuzwi says the Army stands ready to execute its mandate to deal with tribalists and violent cadres if called upon by the Head of State.

This is in response to President Hakainde Hichilema’s remarks that he would deploy the army if the police failed to do their work.

Alibuzwi stated that he is concerned about the increase in the pronouncements of tribal divisions perpetrated by some individuals in the country.

He said it is important for Zambians to embrace the One Zambia One Nation motto whose objective is to promote unity regardless of tribe.

"Let us embrace the One Zambia One Nation motto because we are one people regardless of tribe," he stated.

"It is important important for us not to embrace tribal divisions, tribal and ethnic conflicts have led to instability in some African countries."

The Army Commander said this when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Rose Sakala, where he is attending an African Union specialised technical committee on defense, safety and security.

THE ruling UPND has slammed the Inspector General of Police Graphael Musamba for failing to protect citizens from suspected UPND cadres’ thuggery.

Party deputy media director Cheelo Katambo said, the duty of Mr Musamba is to protect all citizens as provided by the constitution.

“The IG could be better, and the Journalist should have asked more what the IG meant that the other camp is ready to attack. It is the responsibility of the IG to protect citizens, “he said.

Russian-Ukrainian ‘terrorist’ arrested in Paris after ‘setting off bomb in hotel'
French police have arrested a 26-year-old Ukrainian-Russian man after he set off explosives in a hotel room north of Paris, a source at the French PNAT anti-terrorism prosecutors office said on Wednesday.

The man was treated by firefighters after he "suffered significant burns following an explosion," on Monday.
A subsequent search of his room led to the discovery of products and materials intended for the manufacture of explosive devices, the source added.

The source said the PNAT office, working with France's domestic spy agency, has opened an investigation into the man, who is suspected of participation in a terrorist conspiracy and bomb plot.

Edgar Lungu cultivated the same thuggery nonsense he’s complaining about, says Economic Front (EF) leader Wynter Kabimba.

And State House Chief Communication Specialist Clayson Hamasaka said Lungu must ask the investigative wings about what he allegedly stole as opposed to directing his queries to President Hakainde Hichilema.

Speaking with the Daily Revelation yesterday, Kabimba said he was shocked by former president Edgar Lungu’s hypocrisy and complaints against thuggery, saying he should not be complaining today.
