SPECIAL COUNCIL ADOPTS MMC's 2025 BUDGET AMOUNTING TO K141 MILLION
27th December, 2024 - A Special Council Meeting today adopted the Mongu Municipal Council (MMC) 2025 Output-Based Budget, amounting to 141.7million kwacha.
The 2025 budget presents a 36 percent increase compared to the 2024 budget which stood at 105.2 million kwacha.
The increase in the budget is mainly due to the increment in the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K30.64 million per constituency in 2024 to K36.06 million in 2025.
The CDF has recorded significant increment since 2021 when the UPND formed a government.
The Local Authority intends to collect K14. 541, 333 from locally generated revenue and a K127,118, 350 from National Support, that is the Local Government Equalization fund, the CDF, roads grant, health grant, grant in lieu of rates, matching grants and other grants.
In terms of expenditure and the 2025 budget focus, MMC intends to maintain township roads, install street lights, manage Solid Waste, operationalize Kasima Bulk Market, implement CDF projects, operationalize the Truck Parking Bay, and implement the Integrated Development Plan. All this will be attained through improved budget tracking and monitoring.
After the output budget was adopted in the meeting, His Worship, the Mayor thanked management and Councillors for their commitment and leadership.
Meanwhile, in 2024, the Council scored in many areas which include:
Procurement of Earth Moving Equipment for road works in both constituencies.
Construction of Kasima Bulk Market which is at 98 percent completion
Construction of eight (08)Crossing Points at selected sites in Nalikwanda Constituency.
The Local Authority managed to pay salaries and wages as they fell due.
These achievements however are not without challenges, MMC faced some challenges, among them were;
Delayed approval and award of the Valuation Roll due to the objections by property owners.
Negative attitude by the residents towards payment of Council levies and taxes.
The increased debt burden for statutory and staff creditors.
MMC wishes to thank all the stakeholders for supporting the budget preparation process through their contributions during stakeholder engagements.
Members of the public and the general business community in Mongu are further urged to pay their various dues in order for the Local Authority to implement the budget and provide quality services.
