THE CLERGY IN SOLWEZI CALLS FOR ADHERENCE TO CHOLERA PREVENTIVE MEASURES

The Pastors’ Fellowship in Solwezi District of Northwestern Province has called on the church to adhere to cholera preventive measures that have been put in place by the government to help contain the disease.

Solwezi Pastors’ Fellowship Secretary General, O’brian Mayambu, urged the clergy to ensure their church surroundings are clean and to participate in the sensitisation of the community on the dangers of cholera.

Apostle Mayambu said he appreciates the influence that the clergy has on the community, hence the need for them to play a role in community sensitisation.

He further encouraged churches to consider reducing the hours of worship during church services.

“We are also encouraging the clergy to ensure that congregants avoid handshakes while at church and that worship services should be conducted within the shortest possible time to ensure there is no spread of the disease.

“In the same vein, we are encouraging community members to ensure they treat their drinking water by adding chlorine and boiling it,” he said.

Apostle Mayambu has further cautioned community members to maintain high standards of hygiene to contain the acute diarrhea infection that typically spreads by consuming contaminated food or water.
