ECL SHARES:

SPEECH DELIVERED BY MYSELF, THE 6TH PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZAMBIA, DR. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU AT THE TONSE ALLIANCE LAUNCH TO ACCEPT MY ADOPTION AS THE 2026 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE ALLIANCE

On 28th October, 2023, l Edgar Chagwa Lungu, Sixth President of the Republic of Zambia did officially announce my comeback into active politics during the 9th memorial ceremony of President Micheal Sata, the Founder of the Patriotic Front.

On that day, l mentioned that l came back into active politics to defend constitutional democracy, rule of law as well as help unite the Opposition to foster effective checks and balances and present a united front in the 2026 general elections.

Today, l want to repeat and emphasize my call for all opposition parties, civil society organizations and progressive citizens to come together and fight to rescue our country and restore constitutionalism, democracy and the rule of law.

I've repeatedly expressed willingness to work with members of the Opposition and other progressive social formations to save our country from the current ruinous path.

We should not encourage working in isolation and in boxes, but forge alliances driven by a unity of purpose in order to develop our country.

The Church, civil society, trade unions, academia and political parties must collaborate and identify common issues that must be promoted together to rescue our people and the country from the failures, mismanagement and misrule perpetuated by this incompetent government.

Yes, it is no longer a secret that the UPND has plunged the country into economic turmoils, engaged in bad governance, destroyed constitutionalism, oppressed citizens and lamentably failed to deliver public services and campaign promises.

Make no mistake, this fight is not merely about removing the UPND from Government. It is about restoring the wellbeing of the Zambian people.
We must recognize that our country is suffering from an economic meltdown, high cost of living, unprecedented loadshedding and other crises.

The fight is about that bus driver who had hoped for better income by reason of the promise of cheaper fuel but is now disappointed that the promise has not been fulfilled.
It is about that barber man in Mtendere, that hair dresser in Chiwempala, that welder in Mazabuka who hoped that loadshedding was behind us considering that, we, in the Patriotic Front ended loadshedding, but now such businesses are shutting down or going for several days without electricity in their work places.

It is about that marketeer who is struggling to make ends meet because of the hostile business environment.
It is about that street vendor whose hustling earns him income of hand-to-mouth but now cannot even find market or place to trade from.

It is about restoring an effective farmer in-put support program that delivered input at the farm gate and ensured that the small-holder farmer was food secure.

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow country men and women, the youth and all our children, I am thankful and honoured for this noble gesture by the Tonse Alliance Partners of adopting me as the 2026 Presidential Candidate.

I pledge that I will not let you down as your 2026 presidential candidate. With your support and the support of the collective Zambians, victory is certain.

My appeal to other political alliances such as the United Kwacha Alliance, People’s Pact, the Zambia We Want, and other political parties is that, let’s keep our doors wide open to work together to redeem this country especially that all political and economic parameters are clearly showing that this government and its leader will not save Zambia.

I thank you and may the Almighty God Bless our Country, Zambia.

Police Dismiss Claims of Security Presence at Tonse Alliance Launch

Police have dismissed false social media claims that heavily armed officers have secured the Tonse Alliance launch venue. Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated the reports are misleading and intended to cause unnecessary public alarm.

Hamoonga emphasized that the police operate within a framework of transparency and accountability.

He also urged individuals, including Emmanuel Mwamba, Sean Tembo, and the administrator of the Patriotic page, to refrain from spreading unverified and potentially inflammatory information.

PRESIDENT HAKAINDE HICHILEMA IS HERE TO STAY - UPND

By Beatrice Chabaya

UPND Western Province Presidential Campaign Team Chairman Max Kasabi says President Hakainde Hichilema is here to stay as he is on solid ground.

Mr Kasabi said that President Hichilema has gained himself massive support from the time he was elected.

He added that the President was elected in the fullness of God's time, and is here to stay to fulfil his constitutional mandate, of providing servant leadership that speaks to the aspirations of the people.

“As we have previously stated, Zambia can't be likened or put in situational comparison with other political activities in other countries.
Zambia is a sovereign state with an elected President who is here to stay” he said.

“We have however noted with amusement the excitement in opposition political circles, of those who misguide themselves thinking they can replicate the political happenings around the world”

Mr kasabi reemphasized That “incase you missed the point, President Hakainde Hichilema is here to stay as he will again whitewash his opponents if there will be any in 2026 on his Zambia Forward march to 2031” he concluded.

Fellow Zambians at home and abroad,

Allow me to join the rest of the world in congratulating the incoming 47th President of the United States of America, His Excellency Donald J. Trump who has today won the most consequential Presidential poll in the history of his country. If it were here, we could have said in Bemba: “Nabwelelapo pamupando” (he has bounced back into power, or he is back on the Presidential throne).

Despite being one of the most persecuted former presidents in America’s modern history, Mr. Trump has shown the world that political discipline and leadership tenacity, coupled with the correct and patriotic campaign messages, have the power to win the hearts of the masses. I speak from a place of knowledge that most Zambians, just like me, are proud of President Trump and wish him the best as he takes over the White House in January, 2025.

Although the United States may appear remote for many ordinary folks in Zambia, what happens in that country has a direct universal impact politically, economically and diplomatically as the world shrinks into a global community. For example, we sincerely hope that President Trump will help to mediate and end the Gaza-Israel conflict as well as Russia-Ukraine war.

In like manner, allow me to also commend the American justice and electoral systems for ensuring that President Trump was on the ballot and contested freely by setting aside court cases as opposed to using the ‘lawfare’ to stop him from participating in the elections.

The rest of the world must take a leaf from the United States that in a democracy, candidates must be allowed to run their race instead of being stopped from participating by using the courts of law.

Fellow Zambians, join me in celebrating the Trump Victory and strongly commending Vice-President Kamala Harris for having mounted a spirited campaign. Zambia could learn a lot from this election.

Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu
Sixth President of the Republic of Zambiaq

Donald Trump’s victory brings promising prospects for Zambia and Africa. For too long, foreign influence has pressured African nations to compromise on deeply-held values and principles. Trump's win signifies a return to traditional, conservative values, potentially reducing the imposition of ideologies that conflict not only with the moral and cultural fabric of our societies but also stand against God's law on sins against nature.

Historically, the Western world, particularly the United States, was a beacon of Christian values. It was the source of missionaries who introduced Christianity to Africa, laying the foundation for the faith that many Zambians hold dear today. However, in recent years, the same Western nations that once stood for strong moral principles have shifted towards promoting agendas that clash with our beliefs, including policies that do not align with Zambia's values regarding family and morality.

Trump’s stance promises a shift away from these pressures, allowing African nations more sovereignty to uphold their values without the fear of international backlash. It is my hope that his administration will also move to cut funding for LGBTQ and abortion programs in Zambia, recognizing our right to determine our social policies without external imposition.

This creates an opportunity for Zambia and Africa to develop according to their own moral and cultural frameworks, preserving the integrity of their social fabric and faith-based principles. In this sense, Trump's win is more than just a political victory; it could be a step toward ensuring that African nations have the autonomy to protect their cultural and moral heritage.

NEVERS Mumba says he will not be distracted by those ridiculing him as a finished politician who will not add value to the alliance between MMD and ruling UPND.

During an appearance on Big Debate, which airs Tuesday night on Prime Television, Dr Mumba said the agreement signed between UPND and MMD guarantees victory for the alliance in the 2026 general election.

Dr Mumba said he is not surprised with the reaction from the opposition over UPND and MMD’s alliance.

“Our colleagues in the opposition are talking about two alliances, the UKA (United Kwacha Alliance) and Tonse Alliance. They are working together, but the day they heard that Nevers Mumba and HH are coming together, all hell breaks loose,” he said.

“Insults, anger, hatred, just because two people have said ‘let’s work together’.
