Parents open an assault case against Magatle Police Officers for assaulting learners

SOME of police members at Magatle Police Station might find themselves facing the might of the law if the wrongful arrest and alleged physical assault case against them is anything to go by.
This after a recent incident where three learners at the Piet Aphane Secondary School at Magatle village in Zebediela were arrested after being accused of stealing a fellow learner’s cellphone.
According to Lepelle Review’s reliable source, a learner whose father is a Police Officer at Magatle Police Station reported his missing cellphone at the principal and pointed the three victimised fellow learners to have stolen his phone.
“The three suspects were summoned to the principal’s office for questioning but they denied any knowledge about the lost phone.”
Just as everyone thought the missing phone matter was put to rest, surprisingly a week later the father of the learner who lost his phone went to the school with police van accompanied by other policemen on another van and they arrested the three suspects.
Arriving at the police station, the learners allegedly that they were assaulted and tortured by the police despite maintaining their innocence. This ordeal continued for about three hours. They were later released and were told to go home on foot with their injuries. Remember their parents were never informed about anything regarding the lost phone and their children being taken to the station. The phone was said to have discovered in another learner who is not part of the three suspected learners.
The angry parents of the victims’ effort to get full information about the whole saga were fruitless as neither the school staffers nor officials at the Magatle Schools Circuit couldn’t help them.
The parents had to take the injured learners to Magatle Hospital for treatment, and one of those learners is so badly affected so much that that is reported to have badly affected on one of his lungs as a results of torture and the spray they used on them at the station.

LANDLORDS EVICT STUDENTS FROM THEIR PROPERTIES DUE TO NONPAYMENT BY NSFAS

STUDENTS from Sedibeng TVET Vanderbjilpark who resides at private houses where their rent is paid by NSFAS recently found themselves stranded on cold night weather without accommodation. This after the fuming Accommodation Accredited Landlords threw them out of their houses due to non-rental payment.
According to one of the Landlords, NSFAS Student Accommodation lease agreement was signed with Xolani Gobela Lamla, their BOSS Sibongile and Abrey Mposula from Sedibeng TVET and they were aware that the we (Landlords) were going to take such an action to drive students out of our houses as they never responded to our plea for payment even after a countless of meetings and emails sent to them.
”WE are tired of the meeting and their lies. Most of Our Properties are being auctioned by banks and most of us municipalities have disconnect our electricity due to lack of payment from pour side,” said one of the Landlords.
The Landlords are accusing Aubrey for withholding their payments as they claim that NSFAS have actually paid the money. “Aubrey did pay transport for students who are travelling to and from school on a daily basis and yet he didn’t pay for those who stayed at our properties for the entire semester using our water and electricity. Rumours are that he Xolani Gobela has invested our money so as to earn interest before he could pay us. That’s the reason we decided to evict the students from our properties until all the outstanding rental payment can be done,” said the Landlord.

PLEASE HELP THABANG TO LOCATE HIS FATHER LUCKY MPHAHLELE

My official names are Thabang Bryant Mogapi Tladi. I've grown up in Botswana ever since I was about 3 weeks old when my mum (Elizabeth Tladi) came back to Botswana with me after working in JHB (Parkmore) as a domestic worker in 1987.
I DO NOT KNOW MY FATHER and this has caused deep depression in me, it was suicidal at some point but thank God I've healed or at least I am feeling a bit better with that.
I am told by my mother that his names is Lucky Mphahlele from around Pietersburg (which I understand is now known as Polokwane) and he used to work at n a music store/or something to do with music at Noord Taxi Rank.
My father is said to be a bit light in complexion just like me but with beard. I wish I could have more information but unfortunately that's all I can know.
Shockingly a traditional healer ask to see me and told me a lot about me which all was true and told me I have to find my original roots from my father's side and he sees my Soul in Pedi. He mentioned Pietersburg which is what my mum told me.
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures or more info about my Father. Truth Be Told... This is too painful and I can't bear it anymore. I've lived all my life feeling my flash but not feeling my Soul.
PLEASE HELP ME LOOK FOR MY FATHER/MY HOME because go botlhoko.
Those are my pictures, the current one and the other one when I was still young plus that one of my mother.

Betway is the new PSL’s premier league title sponsor

IT’S official, Betway is the new title sponsor for PSL’s elite league. This after the league’s chairman, Dr Irvin Khoza announce this country’s leading online sports and gaming brand, as the premier division’s new title sponsor.

The premier division of football will now be known as the Betway Premiership.

Khoza welcomed the new deal as a major boost to the sport: “This is a massive boost for every lover of football in this country. Our partnership with Betway confirms our league’s standing as one of the best in the world and heralds a wonderful future for our game. Betway’s energy and enthusiasm will have immediate impact across all facets of the game, and on behalf of the PSL, I am proud to welcome them on board as title sponsor and partner.”

Laurence Michel, Betway Africa, believes that the deal marks the beginning of a new era for the premier division, adding that Betway looks forward to help in writing a new chapter in the PSL’s rich soccer history.

“Football is a fundamental part of South African life. It really is in our blood and has been for generations. We are incredibly proud to be the title partner of the Betway Premiership. It further demonstrates not only our respect of the history of the league, but our vision for the development for its future. Formally established in 1996, but with roots that go back nearly a century, the Premier Soccer League is indisputably the most popular sporting competition in South Africa, with legendary characters, dearly-loved clubs and rivalries that capture the essence of football and culture in this country.

Michel explained that the Betway Premiership will lean heavily on the legacy and rich history of a football league already entrenched as one of the top ten domestic league competitions in the world and is excited by what the future holds for football in South Africa.

“We appreciate how much football has done for people and for our country. As we begin this partnership, we want to acknowledge and celebrate what the game has accomplished in the past. Michel added, “We are so excited by what this partnership will do for football fans in South Africa. As a brand, we are known globally for our sponsorships of the world’s biggest clubs and tournaments and that experience is going to play a huge part in driving the PSL forward.”

This partnership further reaffirms the brand’s commitment to the South African sporting industry. It is the latest addition to an enviable sporting partnership portfolio, which spans across a number of sports, which also includes the world champion Springboks, as well as the Betway SA20.

The EFF allegedly received about sixteen million rand in donations from the now defunct VBS Mutual Bank. This is according to the plea agreement affidavit submitted by convicted former VBS chairperson, Thsifhiwa Matodzi. Matodzi has been sentenced to an effective 15 year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to several charges that related to the collapse of VBS. He says the donations were made after he initiated a meeting with the party to discuss the EFF's complaints about former president Jacob Zuma's VBS home loan. In the affidavit, Matodzi states that an initial donation of five million rand was made to a company owned by EFF deputy president, Floyd Shivambu's brother, Brian. The donation followed a meeting between, Shivambu, party leader Julius Malema and secretary Marshal Dlamini in April 2017. He further states that monthly donations of one million rand were further made to the account. Additionally, VBS funds were allegedly used to renovate a restaurant allegedly owned by the EFF. The EFF is yet to respond to our request for comment.

LEARN ABOUT POLYGAMY AND HATRED AMONG THE SIBLINGS ON LEBOGANE’S NOVEL…BLOOD BROTHERS, THE HATRED

WHAT happens when a wealthy man with three wives and 12 children dies?
In the cities, the wealthy man most probably would have left a will behind, but in the rural areas, a tug-of-war for his estate might follow, with the wives and children coming to blows and resulting in bloodshed.
This is the setting of Lebogane Mhlongo's novel, Blood Brothers: The Hatred. Set in the rural Tzaneen, in Limpopo, the book tackles isithembu, polygamy, as well as the generational hatred it breeds if not handled properly by the head of the household.
Lebogane, of Tzaneen, said the novel is partly based on real-life events, derived from her own experiences growing up in a polygamous setting.
"Writing the book was partly therapy for me," she said. "I also wanted to give a personal perspective on what really happens in polygamous marriages, how it affects the wives as well as siblings from various households who are half brothers and sisters. While the world might admire the man with many wives and his wealth, not everyone thinks about these women and their children, who are born of this set-up. No one ever thinks about the deep-seated hatred, jealousy and the entitlement some siblings might have because they are born of Ndlunkulu, the first wife."
Blood Brothers: The Hatred follows the story of two brothers Nyiko and Franz who go head-to-head after the death of their wealthy father, Daniel Mathebula. Nyiko opts to give up his birthright to the inheritance and relocates to Jo'burg to start a new life. But Franz, despite having inherited all their father's wealth, is still feeling threatened by Nyiko and his siblings, who have also decided not to challenge him for the estate. He will not rest until Nyiko and his siblings are dead.
Soon, Franz has squandered all his father's wealth in cattle and properties, and together with his mother, the first wife Francine, now decides to target his brothers one by one, so he could inherit what they have worked long and hard for all their lives.
Lebogane published the book earlier this year but had to request PUBLISH'D AFRIKA to revise it, thanks to glaring grammatical errors made by her previous publisher. The revised edition was released early this month. It also tackles themes such as witchcraft, infidelity, greed and envy. It is a riveting work of fiction based partly on real-life events.

Engen’s Etu Maditsi from Lebowakgomo says “Knowledge is Power”

Polokwane’s Maphuthego Etu Maditsi believes education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world, which is why she will never stop learning and challenging herself.
“I believe that sharing my success story can inspire other young women to prioritise education,” says the graduate trainee based at Engen’s head office in Cape Town. “Rather than relying on others for support, which often leads to dependency and potential abuse, it’s crucial for young women to understand the importance of education and being independent.”
Maphuthego, an alumnus of Derek Kobe Senior Secondary School in Lebowakgomo in Polokwane, is one of 36 trainees enrolled in Engen’s two-year Graduate Development Programme.
Living by the saying “whatever will be will be,” Maditsi is motivated to focus on positive thoughts and kind words, and the things that are important.
Her advice for young South Africans this Youth Month is to put God first in everything they do.
“Keep on keeping on. Be disciplined and focus on what is important. Do not neglect your health and spend more time with your loved ones,” she sagely offers.
Maphuthego graduated from North West University with a BSc degree in computer science and electronics, and an Honours degree in computer science.
She enrolled on the Engen Graduate Development Programme in February 2023 and says she is looking forward to the rest of her learning journey with Engen.
“The experience thus far has provided me with knowledge of how the business works and how to navigate life in a corporate world.”
She says the training has added great value to her skills development and personal growth.
“Getting involved in business projects has made me feel like I belong and that my contribution is valued. Along with a supportive team, my experience has been fulfilling,” reflects Maphuthego.
The 24-year-old is proud of where she is today.
“I was very excited to get into this graduate programme and obtain my university degrees. Another achievement was publishing my research article for the 9th International Conference of Networks and Communications (NC 2021), and starting my journey with God as a Christian is one of my greatest achievements.”
What she loves most about working for Engen is the company's values and culture, which she says resonate with her.
“Engen has a healthy working environment, and the people and management contribute to one’s growth. And of course, it is the biggest and Number One petroleum company in South Africa!”
For Maphuthego, Youth Month is about celebrating the bravery and resilience of youth who played a pivotal role in the struggle against apartheid.
Continuing to attract and grow talented young people like Maphuthego Etu Maditsi demonstrates Engen’s ongoing commitment to developing South Africa’s future experts and leaders.
In addition, as a company that is passionate about progress and seeking to provide opportunities for talented young adults to explore new horizons, Engen’s Graduate Development Programme offers recent graduates valuable work experience across a broad range of business functions.
Explain Engen Skills Development Manager, Mmalenyalo Galane: “The aim is to ensure that all participants emerge as highly employable individuals, bolstered by enhanced confidence, workplace experience, and a comprehensive understanding of working in teams.
“It is Engen’s ultimate reward to help set talented people up to pursue stimulating careers that won’t only benefit them personally, but also their families and the broader economy of South Africa.
“Engen is firmly committed to building tomorrow’s leaders, and if we want to ensure that the youth of tomorrow are prepared for a rapidly changing world, we need to ensure that they have the right mix of skills for them to reach their full potential,” she adds.
In 2023, Engen invested R41 million in Learnerships and Bursaries, along with a further R34 million in other social causes, such as its flagship CSI programme, the Engen Maths and Science Schools.
The Engen Maths and Science Schools (EMSS) are central to Engen’s efforts to contribute to the growth and transformation of South Africa.
Engen's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering educational excellence is reflected in the 2023 EMSS matric class results, which reported a record 97% overall pass rate, and an impressive 77% bachelor pass rate.
This exceptional achievement again underscored the transformative impact of the EMSS programme in empowering underprivileged Grade 10-12 learners at its 10 EMSS centres spread across South Africa.
Since its inception in 1987, the EMSS programme has been the cornerstone of Engen's commitment to societal transformation, today offering over 1,500 learners annually vital supplementary tuition.
Olwethu Mdabula, Engen's CSI Manager, says that the 2023 EMSS matric results affirm the pivotal role that the programme plays in bridging educational disparities and equipping talented learners from disadvantaged backgrounds with the necessary tools for success.
Olwethu explains: “EMSS works tirelessly to help transform young underprivileged people’s lives, with a focus on creating a diverse and vibrant workforce.”
As a company, Engen advocates 9 of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 4 - Quality Education, underscoring its long-held endeavour to foster inclusive and equitable educational opportunities for all.
Adds Mdabula: “Engen recognises that investing in quality education is vital for driving positive change and fostering a diverse and skilled workforce. By championing educational excellence through initiatives like the Engen Graduate Programme and EMSS, Engen is not only shaping individual destinies but also contributing to the broader socioeconomic advancement of South Africa.
“Our ultimate reward is to help set talented people up to pursue stimulating careers that won’t only benefit them personally, but also their families and the broader economy of South Africa.”
