Whoop, shut the front door! TVSA asked for it and it's happening.

BBC Lifestyle's Come Dine With Me South Africa extends to three new cities for Season 10 in the biggest invasion since its debut.

As you probably know, it's been in Cape Town, Joziburg, Durban and Gqeberha previously, changing from season to season, sometimes including Gqeberha and Durbs and sometimes not.

Now it's extending to Mbombela in Mpumalanga, Bloem in Free State and Rustenberg in North West, which will no doubt bring us dinner hosts with new, diverse perspectives and neighbourhoods.

The show's on a search for dinner hosts in these three locations and also Cape Town, Joziburg and Durban.

The only downside: Gqeberha isn't in the running for the season. Hopefully it'll feature in a future season again.

You need to be willing to share your home, cooking, private thoughts and opinions in an open forum of strangers.

The format

Our local edition of long-running American game show Wheel of Fortune premieres on S3 this Monday 8 April at 19h30 and the search is on for people who'd like to be contestants.

Episodes air Mondays to Fridays and three contestants play each night.

If you're keen on being one of them, this is what you need to know:

The format
(With a trial game underneath)

The set

It's a word riddle show, mixed with Roulette, and the wheel on the right determines what you win and lose.

Each episode features three contestants who start with a "Toss-up" round in which they try to unravel a word phrase by themselves to earn money and determine who will spin the wheel first.

There are different wedges on the big wheel - anything between R100 and R800, as well as some dreaded ones like "Lose a Turn" or "Bankrupt", which might ruin the game for some.

In addition to the cash amounts, the wheel includes giveaways, which the contestant will pocket if they figure out the word phrase.

In solving the puzzle, the amount of money indicated on the wheel multiplies with the number of letters contestants choose to put on the game's puzzle board, but only if the letters are actually part of the phrase.

The more correct letters you add, the more you win.

Ultimately, the contestant who calls out the correct phrase bags the money they've accumulated in their own wallet.

Thereafter, the contestant with the biggest winnings moves on to play the bonus round, where more prizes await.

Let's play!

Give it a try now by playing the game online, starting with the Toss Up Challenge. Here's a link:

Toss Up Challenge

You'll see a "How to play" button in the top right.

If you solve three puzzles correctly and within the time, you'll complete a round.

If you complete three rounds correctly, you'll get to the bonus round.

Who can apply for the show?

South African citizens, 18 years and older.

How to apply

You need to:

- Fill in the application form,

- Answer the questions on it,

- Submit a photo,

- Upload a 30-second video, describing yourself and why you'd like to be on the show.

You'll find the entry form here:

Breaking the fourth wall refers to when an actor acknowledges the audience directly, thereby breaking the imaginary “wall” that separates the characters from the audience. This technique can add depth, humor, or intimacy to a performance, creating a unique connection with the viewers. Here are some actor tools for effectively breaking the fourth wall with the camera:

Direct Eye Contact:
Encourage actors to make direct eye contact with the camera lens when breaking the fourth wall. This creates a sense of intimacy and connection with the audience, as if they are speaking directly to them.

Subtle Gestures:
Utilize subtle gestures or facial expressions to signal to the audience that the fourth wall is being broken. This can include a knowing glance, a wink, or a slight tilt of the head towards the camera.

Verbal Address:
Incorporate moments where actors address the audience verbally, either through narration, inner monologue, or by directly speaking to the camera. This allows them to share thoughts, feelings, or commentary with the viewers in real-time.

Breaking Character:
Encourage actors to momentarily break character when addressing the audience, showing a shift in demeanor or tone to acknowledge the change in perspective. This can create a sense of authenticity and spontaneity in the performance.

Engage with Props:
Use props or objects within the scene to interact with the audience indirectly. Actors can hold up signs, hand objects to the camera, or use props as visual cues to draw attention to the act of breaking the fourth wall.

Physical Movement:
Incorporate deliberate physical movements that draw focus to the camera and signal a break from the scene’s reality. This can include stepping towards the camera, leaning in, or gesturing towards the lens to invite the audience into the character’s world.

Timing and Pacing:
Emphasize the importance of timing and pacing when breaking the fourth wall. Encourage actors to find natural pauses or moments of reflection within the scene to address the audience, ensuring that it enhances the narrative flow rather than disrupts it.

Maintain Character Integrity:
Remind actors to maintain the integrity of their character even when breaking the fourth wall. The shift in perspective should feel organic and authentic to the character’s motivations and emotions, adding depth to their portrayal.

Experiment with Perspective:
Encourage actors to experiment with different camera angles and perspectives when breaking the fourth wall. This can include close-ups, POV shots, or wide shots to convey different levels of intimacy or engagement with the audience.

Feedback and Rehearsal:
Provide opportunities for actors to receive feedback and rehearse breaking the fourth wall effectively. This allows them to refine their timing, delivery, and emotional connection with the audience, ensuring a compelling and engaging performance.

By incorporating these actor tools for breaking the fourth wall with the camera, performers can create memorable and impactful moments that resonate with the audience, blurring the lines between fiction and reality in their performances.

International game show format Ready Steady Cook premieres on S3 this Monday 18 March at 19h00 for a 260-episode local edition, airing Mondays to Fridays.

It debuts with a crowd of contestants who've already filmed episodes and applications are open for more home cooks who'd like to be part of it.

It's hosted by TV personality Moshe Ndiki, who has real world experience in food - he started his own food truck business in 2021 - and it features celebrity chefs who team up with contestants to create improvised meals from five random ingredients.

It's produced by Primedia Studios and Rose and Oaks Media, who co-produced The Masked Singer for the SABC last year, and this is what you need to know if you'd like to be on it:

The format

Two contestants team up with two schleb chefs in Team Red Tomato or Team Green Pepper.

Each contestant brings along five ingredients and the chefs must create three dishes from the five ingredients, with the help of their partner contestant.

They also get some basic ingredients like eggs, milk etc. to make the task possible.

They have 20-minutes to complete their dishes while their partner tastes the food, gives feedback and so on.

Once time is up, the studio audience votes to decide on the episode's winning team.

Important to note: the two home cooks are related in some way. They’re either family members, friends, hobby buddies or business partners.

During the cook-off, the audience learns more about their lives through their interaction with Moshe and the chefs.

Flash facts

Filming takes place in Joziburg but applications are open to everyone from round the country.

Celebrity chefs include Kamini Pather, who won Season 2 of MasterChef South Africa on M-Net, and Lorna Maseko, who hosted and judged on Top Chef South Africa on S3.

Lorna was also a contestant on M-Net's Celebrity MasterChef South Africa and went on to host two seasons of her own show on S3 titled The Hostess with Lorna Maseko.

One moment your pockets and bank account are bulging with a windfall and next moment it's gone.

Not stolen, but blown.

Mzansi Wethu's documentary series I Blew It returns on 28 January 2024 for Season 6 and the producers are calling for people who'd like to be featured on it.

People who've blown their bucks.

.

As you may know, the series takes a look into the lives of those who've suddenly come into money and spent it at rapid speed.

It explores how sudden wealth can change relationships, family dynamics and perspectives.

You don't need to be in showbiz though, the series is looking for anyone who's had the experience of gaining money fast and spending it fast.

What's your story?

Maybe you received an inheritance or won the Lotto or made money by trading shares and blew it.

If you'd like to share your experience on the show, you can message the production on this address and tell them your story: [email protected]
