Somebody is getting glasses. 🤓

When your child tells you their eyes hurt or they are working slow because their eyes are dry and words are swimming. Have them tested!

Mienke’s been complaining about working slowly and falling behind in class, because her eyes hurt when she’s reading what to do. She also mentioned that her eyes were itchy and dry.

I immediately contacted the school about her falling behind - which was not the case. She was putting herself under so much pressure because she realized something was wrong.

I also called the optometrist to have her eyes tested. And little did we know that she really needed glasses. Without having the background she explained that Mienke must be working slower due to the strain on her eyes trying to read.
While in the chair she gave her a piece to read without glasses and then again with the lenses - mind blown!

This made me realize that she must have been struggling with this for a while! When she fell behind in reading in the junior grades we took her for extra reading classes while she might have needed glasses!

Don’t wait, if there is any signs have their eyes tested!

Be your own kind of special!

Being a twin, it is so easy to be placed in the same box by society and even by yourself. I keep encouraging the girls to stop measuring themselves against each other and to embrace their differences.

A simple example that showed its ugly head now that they are in grade 4 and receive percentages for assessments are that the one got 100% for an English test and the other now keeps thinking she did not perform well, because she didn’t get a 100%

It’s hard for them, but I keep on reminding them they are strong at different things and it’s beautiful! Be yourself and be proud!

Do your best and it will always be good enough!

It’s the weekend and these two can’t wait to catch up on some screen time 😁

First week was full of excitement and personal growth! Being in Grade 4 they started changing classes for different subjects and learning to be more responsible and independent with no time for screens after a long (much needed) holiday.

Luckily it was a short week back to ease them into it. How was your first week back?

G R A T I T U D E

These photos of Mia came up on my Facebook Memories on 7 January. It was taken 9 years ago in 2015 when she had her first bath after 3 weeks in NICU.

Those of you who know Mia’s story will recognize the victory in this moment. She was indeed a miracle from God’s healing hands.🙌🏻

See, on Christmas Day 2014 (when she was a week old) we received the urgent call (after we left the hospital to have lunch with the family) to rush back. Mia was diagnosed with NEC (Necrotizing enterocolitis (nek-roh-TIE-zing en-ter-oh-coh-LIE-tis), the most common and serious intestinal disease among premature babies.) Bad news were there was nothing the pead surgeon could do for Mia, our only hope on recovery - a miracle!

We never lost faith and we never stopped praying! And God saved our little girl! Miraculously no perforation happened and she started healing, when the hospital prepared for the worse.

I guess we might “forget” from time to time what we have to be thankful for when life gets so busy, but we should always be aware of God’s Hands in our lives.
