Thrilling draw between Hazelmere FC and Hambanathi United

A highly intense match between Hazelmere FC and Hambanathi United took place at the Verulam recreational sports ground over the weekend. Both teams, determined to improve their standings in the SAFA eThekwini North Zonal League, showcased their skills in a thrilling encounter.

Hambanathi United posed an early threat, forcing Hazelmere's defence to work tirelessly and unsettling their defensive players. The pressure paid off when Hambanathi was awarded a free kick outside the penalty box. Bhekezelani Mgomezulu took advantage of the opportunity, striking the ball with power and accuracy to give his team the lead.

Despite the scorching heat, which led to repeated water breaks, the game continued with intensity. Hazelmere FC returned strong after the first-half interval, determined to find the equalising goal. Their efforts were rewarded when Themba Langa connected well with Siboniso Nxumalo to score the equaliser, making it 1-1.
Both teams maintained their attacking momentum until the final whistle, resulting in a 1-1 full-time score.

In post-match comments, both coaches, Lindani Mathunjwa from Hazelmere FC and Sandile Myeza from Hambanathi United, praised their players for their outstanding performance in the extreme heat. Both teams are now focused on improving their log standing positions in the SAFA eThekwini North Zonal League.

Legendary educator bids farewell

The curtains close on the illustrious career of Mrs. P.M. Naidoo on 31 January as she takes a well-deserved retirement from the Department of Education.

'Prindha', as she is fondly known, commenced her career at Dawnview Primary School in Stanger in 1981 as an administration clerk. In 1983, she was transferred to Tongaat Primary, where she spent 18 years, and later moved to La Mercy Primary School. After furthering her studies and obtaining teaching qualifications, she secured a teaching post at Mitchford Primary School. She was later transferred to Trubel Primary School, affectionately known as ‘The home of the gentle giants’.

Despite the challenges she faced with her health, Naidoo remained steadfast, committed, and passionate about serving her pupils. "Prindha gave herself wholeheartedly, not just to the learners, but to the community she served. Her experience in dance and Debs Ball co-ordination is a legacy she will leave behind," remarked Principal Guru Ramcharan.

Natalie Narainsamy, SGB Chairperson, praised Naidoo: "Brave, caring, and a pupil's person, she will surely be missed at Trubel. Her line dancing skills, which won the school many accolades, will be remembered by the pupils for a long time."

The educators will also miss her culinary skills, as she always prepared mouth-watering meals, and her homemade pickles were a delicacy savoured by all.

They place their faith and trust in God almighty and, through His grace, they serve with love for others."
