Paying of allowances by NSFAS

The North-West University (NWU) management had previously registered concerns regarding the NSFAS’s proposed process to take over the payment allowances. It became evident during a meeting with the chair of the NSFAS Board on 30 June 2023, that NSFAS would proceed with implementation of payment of allowances directly to recipients of NSFAS funds despite objections. NSFAS and the third-party service provider, Norraco, met on 17 July 2023 with NWU representatives with the objective to prepare for a smooth handover process that would be in the best interest of our students.

The NWU management is committed to doing everything possible to ensure that the handover will go as smoothly as possible. Therefore, NSFAS students are encouraged to urgently apply for their NSFAS Mastercard before the deadline date of 25th July 2023.

Communication has already been shared with NWU’s NSFAS beneficiaries: https://fal.cn/3A847 addition, communication will be sent to all NSFAS students once Norraco representatives are available on all the NWU campuses as per NSFAS’s commitment, to assist affected beneficiaries.

Happy Youth Month, !

Leadership starts at the North-West University but soars beyond the academic journey. This Youth Month, wants to discover and highlight our vibrant student leaders. Our student leaders follow their hearts and work to make a difference.

“You are a student before you are a student leader,” says soaring eagle Etienne Joseph, the Faculty of Humanities’ Marketing and Public Relations Officer on the Vanderbijlpark Campus, who uses his voice for those who are silenced.

As a people’s person who loves to interact with other people as well as lending a help hand whenever he can, Etienne joined the Humanities Academic Student Chapter which was the perfect opportunity to help people while learning.

Through family support and external inspiration Etienne went into leadership. His surroundings and seeing the needs of his fellow students played an important part but believing in himself pushed him harder. He lives by the quote of Jewish scholar Hillel: “If not you, then who? If not now, when?”
