Xavier Nagel Agencies Xavier Nagel Agencies is an independent sales and distribution company that specialises in the retail or trade aspect of the book trade in South Africa.

Since 2007 we’ve been selling and supplying books to Exclusive Books, Wordsworth Books, Bargain Books, Juta, Van Schaik and various other independent bookshops like Book Lounge and Clarke’s in Cape Town. Our focus is on small publishers and/or self-published authors. Our office and distribution centre is in Salt River, Cape Town and we have independent sales representatives in Cape Town and Johann

esburg. Between the sales representatives and the office more than 150 bookshops are covered throughout South Africa. After orders are collected by the sales team, they are processed at our office in Cape Town. The titles ordered are supplied by our selves in Cape Town. Outside of Cape Town, bookshops are supplied via the courier company MDS or via registered mail. Xavier Nagel Agencies is a registered vendor with Exclusive Books, Bargain Books and other bookshops in South Africa. These bookshops pay us (payment terms depending on the sales agreement) for books sold and we then pay our various authors and publishers. Xavier Nagel Agencies works according to a monthly sales cycle and call on shops from January to November every year. During December the majority of bookshops focus solely on festive season sales. Because many bookshops run their own Christmas promotions, it is important when planning the sales strategies, that titles are sold into shops no later than October of that particular year.
