This species is better known by its Afrikaans name, stamvrug and is one of South Africa's more popular veld fruits, a thirst quencher to be enjoyed whilst walking in the mountains.

The fruit is also used for making syrup, jelly, jam, wine, vinegar and are sometimes distilled to produce a mampoer...

These Euphorbia zoutpansbergensis, which we find scattered along the rocky ridges up in the mountains, are a constant reminder of the fact that that the Soutpansberg Mountain range is home to many species of plants and animals which are completely endemic to the mountain.

There are 33 vascular plants alone that are endemic to the region.. 33 species from 25 genera and 17 families. And who knows how much we have not discovered yet!

The diversity up here in the Soutpansberg is the direct result of numerous "microc limates" which are in turn a result of the wonderful geomorphological complexity of the range.
