A foam nest frog chilling on Sunday afternoon...
In summer, these frogs are often seen perched on the branches of trees overhanging or near water, and their white, foamy nests are conspicuous around dams, pans and vleis and along river and stream courses.

Stemfruit (Englerophytum magalismontanum) starting to flower on the stems where the fruit will grow (incase you did not pick that up from the name)
This species is better known by its Afrikaans name, stamvrug and is one of South Africa's more popular veld fruits, a thirst quencher to be enjoyed whilst walking in the mountains.
The fruit is also used for making syrup, jelly, jam, wine, vinegar and are sometimes distilled to produce a mampoer...

Did you know that a love potion can be made with these flowers...... but don't ask me how.

These Euphorbia zoutpansbergensis, which we find scattered along the rocky ridges up in the mountains, are a constant reminder of the fact that that the Soutpansberg Mountain range is home to many species of plants and animals which are completely endemic to the mountain.
There are 33 vascular plants alone that are endemic to the region.. 33 species from 25 genera and 17 families. And who knows how much we have not discovered yet!
The diversity up here in the Soutpansberg is the direct result of numerous "microc limates" which are in turn a result of the wonderful geomorphological complexity of the range.
