UPDATE: The trapped workers have been found and taken to hospital.

📽WATCH: The cross which has lit up the mountainside in Gordon’s Bay for decades and been visible from afar, has been taken down for repairs.
The lights of the treasured landmark has been dim due to increasing incidents of vandalism and theft. It will now be restored back to its former shining glory thanks to various organisations which have joined hands to raise funds toward the cause. This after inspections revealed the deteriorating state of the cross.
According to Heyns de Waal, the chief operating officer for Gordon's Bay Security who championed the initiative, the private security company has rallied financial support from the Dutch Reformed church in Beach Road, Gordon’s Bay Business Association, Gordon’s Bay Residents’ Association, Gordon’s Bay Community Policing Forum, and Gordon’s Bay Neighbourhood Watch.
Earlier this afternoon (Friday 28 June), engineers lowered the cross for all the lights to be replaced by electricians over the weekend. The cross will be reinstated on Monday.
Locals can look forward to reading about the initiative in next week’s edition of the ’paper.

It's election day!
Many Helderbergers are streaming toward various voting stations in the basin, and word has it that the process is peaceful across communities.
Long queues have formed at stations in Strand and Somerset West. In Macassar, things are off to a slow but efficient start.
There are unconfirmed reports of electronic mishaps at some voting stations, resulting in longer waiting times.

JUST IN: A man is his 20’s has fallen from the 5th floor onto the second floor at the Galloway Centre in Wesley Street, Strand. First responders and paramedics are on scene and working to safely stabilize the patient and transport him to hospital.
