EXCELLENT APPLIED THEATRE IN STELLENBOSCH
The e’Bosch Heritage Project based in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape Province of South Africa just celebrated its 10th anniversary in fitting style with a community stage production which turned out an excellent exercise in applied theatre where the participants created their own stories based on personal life experiences.
The actors in the production were the ten finalists gleaned from an extensive three-month community talent search in the greater Stellenbosch district whose presentation skills where then honed during workshops under expert guidance of music, drama and dance tutors.
This year the total number of entries received in the various categories were 35 for music, 17 for drama, and 12 for dancing as part of the annual e’Bosch Festival of Talents. The 10 chosen finalists then went through an extensive workshop programme to hone their presentation skills under the expert guidance of Robert Hindley (drama), Marthie Hauptfleisch (music), and Hurgen Cornelson (dancing). The finalists who performed in this production were Siba Qoba, Quintin Joubert, Asiphe Nicholas Feni, Drovigas Goshai, Nevrihelle Arnolds, Leshton-Lee du Plessis, Ronaldo van Rhyn, Lushan de Koker, Clayton Appolis, and Lee-Ron Maart. The project was in collaboration with the National Lotteries Commission and Wesgro.
The e’Bosch Festival of Talents is one of the 28 heritage projects staged by the Stellenbosch-based e’Bosch Heritage Project during September and October 2021 this year, all of them adapted to observe Covid-19 protocols.
